When Tonka’s owner became homeless in the midst of a financial crisis, her owner had no choice but to surrender her to the local shelter. That shelter happens to be located in Sacramento. This sweet dog no longer had a home with her owner, and her owner was devastated to have to give her up. However, her owners knew that she didn’t have a chance at a happy life with people who could no longer afford to provide her with food and water or a place to live. They did the difficult thing and they gave her up. Unfortunately, shelter life is difficult for many dogs, and Tonka was one of those dogs.
Sweet and lovely, she was confused by the shelter and very sad about her situation. That made her look like the kind of dog that no one wanted when they came into the shelter. Basically, no one wanted her anymore. She was 9-years-old already, she barked at people who came in to see her, and she’s a Staffordshire Terrier Mix without much more known. No one wanted her. That’s when they asked one of their staff members with an artistic side to paint Tonka. The lobby is the home of this beautiful portrait, and it makes people more interested in dogs. It wasn’t long before a family saw Tonka’s photo in the lobby and decided that they had to have this dog. She’s now living a much happier life with a loving family who is only looking to make her happier with every passing day.
