What Sets The White German Shepherd Apart From The Rest?

Everyone is probably familiar with the German Shepherd dog breed.  These dogs are a popular breed and have been used around the world as working animals for hundreds of years.  But many of you may not know about the White German Shepherd. These dogs are recognized by the United Kennel Club as their own standard breed giving them good standing.  This decision that was made in 1999 allowed the dogs to be able to compete in competitions such as best in breed and best overall breed.  Being such a new breed not a lot of people are informed about them.  While they do have similar traits as their black and tan cousins, these dogs have a personality all of their own.

What Sets The White German Shepherd Apart From The Rest?

Probably one of the biggest differences in these animals is their temperament.  Unlike their traditional cousins these dogs are not aggressive at all.  In fact, these canines are some of the most gentle and timid animals you will ever meet.  This is probably why they have never been used as protection dogs.  While they will alert you when a stranger approaches, it would be a stretch to say they would attack.  So if you are looking for a guard dog, it is probably best that you chose a different breed.

These Dogs Can Get Into Trouble When They Are Bored

Just like most large breed dogs they need lots of exercise to work off stored up energy.  One has to remember that these are working dogs and were breed in the past to move around a lot.  When one of these dogs is left alone for long periods of time they often get bored.  When this happens they will often become destructive and tear into whatever is in their environment.  So make sure you always walk them before leaving the home.  You wouldn’t want to come home to find your favorite chair destroyed.  But overall these dogs are good animals. They just need some enrichment to keep their minds busy.

Sometimes These Dogs Can Be Very Shy

These are timid animals and will need a lot of socialization in order to not run away at the sight of person or another dog.  So make sure to spend some time with your animal and introduce it to others.  This will be a great way to teach your dog not to fear the unknown.  With proper socialization skills these dogs will come out of their shells and not be so shy. Remember that it’s up to you to properly train your dog so they can lead a happy and productive life.
