The Teacup Schnauzer: A Truly Tiny Dog

The dog world is filled with canines big and small.   But there is a trend that has been going on for many years.  Toy or teacup dogs are now very popular with both the average individual and Hollywood royalty alike.

One dog in particular has stood out from the rest of this tiny pack.  The Teacup Schnauzer has been a long time favorite of many dog owners.  This pint sized version of their larger cousins is one of the most adorable creatures you will ever set your eyes upon.  Just one look at these cuties and your heart will melt. So if you have ever wondered about these little dogs, below is a little more information on them.

How Big Do These Dogs Actually Get?

When you think of a Teacup Schnauzer you might think of a small dog but these animals are so small that when you see them in person you might be shocked.  So one of these dogs never reach the 10 pound mark and they are often 12 inches tall, or shorter depending on each individual animal.  But when they are puppies they are even smaller and can fit in the palm of your hand.

What about Temperament?  What Can Be Expected From These Dogs?

When it comes to temperament these dogs are intelligent and loving animals. But be warned that they are very energetic and will be bursting with excitement when you walk in the door from being gone all day.  So make sure to consider that before purchasing one of these dogs.  A good idea if you work away from the home would be to have someone come over during the day and walk your animal for you.  This will help them release their energy and they won’t feel as penned up during the day.

How About Health Issue?  Will I Have To Worry about Anything If I Purchase One of These Dogs?

There is always a health concern when dealing with toy or miniature dogs.  But with the proper breeding technique, many of these problems can be worked out of their DNA.  Some of these dogs may have skin disorders that need to be treated by a Vet.  They are also prone to over eating and may gain weight rapidly, so you will have to keep an eye on the amount of food you are giving them.  But overall, this is a very sturdy animal that would make a great family pet.
