There is nothing happier than a story of a dog so close to being euthanized that’s saved just in the nick of time. It’s a heartwarming story no matter the details. We wish we didn’t even have to tell stories like this, but we are very appreciative of the people who come in and rescue these dogs and cats just in time, providing them with homes filled with love and laughter and good times. That’s what Roo Yori and his wife do; they rescue dogs. They’d love to rescue all the dogs in the world, but they recognize that there are a few limitations to consider. However, they do rescue dogs in need as often as they can, and they have done something really amazing for one dog in particular.
Meet Wallace. Wallace is a pit bull with a lot of energy and a lot of behavioral issues. He was set to die as a dog that was just not adoptable when this family stepped in and offered to take him in. They decided to foster this dog in hopes that they could calm him down in a less stressful environment, but even six months later no one wanted him. Clara, Roo’s wife, would play Frisbee with Wallace. They began training for competitions, and she began to see that they created a strong bond and that the dog’s behavior improved greatly as a result.
Now they compete in Disc Dog competitions and Wallace is a natural. He loves that the has this ability and this time with his new forever family (they began doing this in 2005, by the way) and he is now a much calmer, much more loving dog. Since pits aren’t known for their disc abilities, he quickly gained national attention. He is now the winner of the 2006 Cynosport World Championships, the 2007 Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge National Championship, and he’s won several other national competitions.
