When Cola was a nine-month-old puppy, he did something that puppies that age do on a regular basis. He chewed a pair of shoes he found outside his neighbor’s house. This happened in Thailand, where there are fewer rules and rights for animals. The owner of the dog offered his neighbor some money in apology so that he could buy some new shoes. Instead of taking the money he was offered, however, the neighbor came out of his house brandishing a sword and cut the legs of the dog. He cut off both of Cola’s front legs. Bleeding and dying in front of him, his owner rushed him to the vet. The vet’s office was not equipped to handle this kind of situation, so he was sent to Bangkok for further medical treatment.
It was there that doctors were able to stop the bleeding and make the dog’s health improve over time, but Cola still had no front legs. The doctor wanted to do something to help the dog, so he came up with an idea for some improvised prosthetic legs for this sweet animal. The Soi Dog Foundation took the dog in and began the care of healing him and getting him to know his new legs, and now he is a dog on the move. He’s living a much happier life now, and he has all but forgotten the time a man cut off the front legs on his body for doing what puppies do. He can run and play now.
