Loyal Dog Hitches a Ride on the Side of an Ambulance to Be With Owner

While it’s no secret that dogs are really “man’s best friend,” as they often even go above and beyond that title, especially if their owner really treats them with the utmost care and unconditional love. You can always tell just how their human treats them in the way that they care for their owner. One dog named Buddy obviously has an owner who treats him like a part of the family – maybe even as well as his own son! After all, when Buddy’s owner, JR Nicholson,  had to go to the hospital the canine ended up jumping on the ambulance the elderly man was on and pulled quite the mission!

The 85-year-old man was feeling dizzy and asked to be taken to the hospital, so Mason County EMS was contacted and sent over an ambulance for the man. Nicholson’s friend, Brian Wright, stayed behind at the man’s ranch to lock up while he was taken to the hospital. Upon locking up, Wright couldn’t locate Buddy anywhere, but wasn’t fazed as the canine is allowed to wander the premises on his own. However, Buddy was definitely not on the premises as he decided to jump onto the side of the ambulance and ended up hanging on as a doggy hitchhiker. It wasn’t for a good 20 miles that the EMTs on the ambulance were alerted by a passing driver that there was a stowaway dog on the side of the vehicle.

“It was a crazy ordeal,” EMT Tanner Brown. “We didn’t have anything else to do but to load the dog up and put him in the ambulance and take him to the ER with us.”

Once inside the ambulance, the determined dog showed off his skills as an experienced tractor dog by accidentally turning on the control switch for the sirens and the lights. Luckily, Nicholson’s hospital stay was a brief one and the kind nurses were able to bring him out to be with his ever-loyal Buddy.

“I was impressed,” Nicholson said. “He didn’t have to go to the hospital with me, but he did.”

The funny thing is, this is the type of behavior a long-time pet would show. But Buddy has only been with Nicholson for a mere four months! It’s quite obvious that the canine truly loves his new home and has much love for his human.

“I had two dogs (before Buddy), but I had to put one of them down,” Nicholson explained. “He came along at just the right time. He’s now a member of the family.”
