Ohio City Council Votes Unanimously To Revoke Pit Bull Ban

There are many states and cities in the U.S. that define the pit bull as a dangerous breed and have banned it. What this means is that residents of particular cities or towns – or even entire states – are unable to have animals like the pit bull at home. They’re considered dangerous as a whole and banned from any household. Many of these areas have different terms and conditions with this law, but most areas will either fine you or remove your dog from your home if you have one against the law.

Ohio was, up until three years ago, one of those states. Three years ago the area made the decision to remove the pit bull ban from the rule books and allow their residents to own this dog they once considered dangerous. However, not all the cities in the state agreed with this law, and they did not abide by it at all. For the most part, the rule states that you have to be a pit bull owner with a dog that was registered long before the original ordinance was passed, and you are not allowed to remove your dog from his or her leash, take it out of your yard on a leash longer than four feet or live without $100,000 in liability insurance.

Youngstown was one of those cities until just recently. The area has decided to overturn the ban on pit bulls, though, so now residents can own the breed if they see fit. Now anyone can own a pit bull, and there are no longer any restrictions to getting one. Since the breed itself is not a dangerous breed but the owners that do not properly raise their dogs are the dangerous breed, there is a lot of celebration going on right now in Youngstown. And we bet there will be a number of pit bulls with Christmas bows in the near future.
