20 Funny Dog Chasing Scenes from Movies or TV

Who doesn’t love having the opportunity to sit down and watch a good movie or even a television show that has a dog in it? The truth is, the only thing better than having one or two dogs to watch is having a whole gaggle of dogs that you can watch at one time. Below is a compilation of different movies and television shows that can give you some genuinely big laughs, all thanks to the chase scenes involving the dogs. Keep in mind, some of these forms of entertainment are made to be funny from beginning to end. Others are actually quite serious and some of them are just downright sad (Marley & Me, Turner & Hooch). For the most part, the movies and television shows here are a mixture of both funny and serious scenes. While most of them come from movies, some of the clips listed below come from old cartoons and at least a couple of them come from cherished television shows from days gone by. The links for the clips of each scene are included underneath the title of the movie or television show, as you can see. That way, you can watch for yourself and decide which ones you like the best. If you decide to watch these clips, get ready to laugh because some of them are truly side-splitting.

1. The Sandlot

This is easily considered one of the most legendary movies that has ever been made. Furthermore, it is easily one that has managed to stand the test of time when others have fallen by the wayside. The movie is actually known for the clip where the baseball goes over the fence and the boys must go rescue it. When they do, they come face-to-face with one of their biggest fears, the dog next door. The scene that erupts from all of this is absolutely hilarious, as the boys try to get back on the other side of the fence without having their pants or their flesh ripped to shreds.

2. Fletch

This particular movie is uncharacteristically funny from beginning to end but there is no doubt that one of the best scenes involves the movie’s main title character, Fletch, as he attempts to get away from the guard dog that lives in the place he is trying to break into. It seems that Fletch has the idea that he can go wherever he wants to go because he is a private investigator. The Doberman Pinscher that is guarding the place has other ideas. The funniest part about this is that dog basically proves that he is a lot smarter than the man and it’s funny to watch that dog mess with his head.

3. the Last One

This is a movie that is scarcely even known by most people. You can almost bet that if you ask the person standing next to you what this movie is about, they won’t have a clue. To be honest, most people don’t really know what this movie is about, but that doesn’t change the fact that there is a better-than-average chase scene involving a dog. In this particular scene, it’s one dog against one man out in the wilderness. There really isn’t anything all that funny about the scene as a whole, but the funny part involves watching this incredibly furry dog chasing after this man. The man is running as if his very life depends on it and every time the camera cuts to the dog, all you really see is this giant ball of fur on four legs. Perhaps it depends on your sense of humor whether or not you find this scene funny, but it seems sort of like running away from the Tooth Fairy as if she is a dragon.

4. Cats & Dogs

If you haven’t seen this movie, you really don’t know what you’re missing. The whole thing is funny. In this particular scene, the dog decides he’s had enough of the cat and he’s going to get the best of it one way or the other. The cat climbs a tree and the dog goes right after him. Eventually, the dog slings the cat out of the tree and right into the window of a nearby home. It only gets funnier from there as both the cat and the dog run right across the top of the homeowner and break just about everything inside the house. If you watch this scene and you don’t laugh yourself silly, you might want to check your pulse and make sure you’re still alive.

5. Garfield

The best thing about this particular scene is watching sweet little Odie have his moment in the sun. As far as the scene itself goes, you have all of these beautiful, well trained dogs that are supposed to be paying attention and doing a very specific thing. Instead, they’re all chasing the cat, who just so happens to have climbed up the dress of a woman. Therefore, you have about two dozen dogs chasing her and they are all knocking everyone in their path flat as a pancake. All the while, Odie is standing right in the middle of the show ring getting his fifteen minutes of fame, something he definitely deserves.

6. The Shaggy Dog

Who wouldn’t love this movie? This is actually a remake of a film by the same name that is much older. In this version, Tim Allen is the shaggy dog. In this particular scene, he is at his child’s school and sees a cat out of the window. Being a man who has been changed into a dog, he just can’t resist the urge to go chase the cat. The next thing you see is the cat running from him as he transforms into a dog. It sounds weird to describe it, but it is truly a funny movie and well worth watching if you haven’t seen it before.

7. Tom & Jerry

Tom and Jerry is a tried-and-true cartoon that has been around for decades. It’s practically impossible to decide on just one chase scene because the only thing these two ever do is chase each other around while one tries to outsmart the other. This particular clip gives you the chance to watch some of the best chase scenes that were ever created between the two. If you are a fan of the cartoon, it gives you a chance to relive some of your childhood with a smile on your face. If you haven’t seen it in the past, you just might find something brand-new that you can’t do without.

8. Benji the Hunted

Over a period of several years, a number of movies were made starring the lovable Benji. He is a cute little mixed breed dog that has a number of different adventures through many different movies. In this particular movie, he finds himself alone in the wilderness and he has to learn how to fend for himself until someone finds him. This particular scene involves him chasing a rabbit. Fortunately, the scene is more funny than anything else. No harm comes to either Benji nor the rabbit, so you can let your kids watch it without worrying that they will be scarred for life.

9. Homeward Bound

Homeward Bound is one of those movies that will have you laughing until your sides hurt sometimes and going through a box of tissues at other times. Fortunately, everything works out for both the animals and the people in the long run. This specific scene involves both of the dogs trying to outsmart a cougar. Keep in mind, the only dog in this movie that seems to have any sense is Shadow, the golden retriever. Chance, on the other hand, is more symbolic of a goofy teenager that doesn’t really think anything through. When the two have to work together to outsmart the cougar, you know the things are going to be both thrilling and hilarious.

10. Lassie

Some might think that this scene is more touching than it is funny, but it just had to be included on this list anyway. The chase scene involves a fox running from hordes of dogs and horses during a fox hunt. Of course, Lassie would never be involved in such a thing. The poor fox is scared to death, but he is rescued when he finds Lassie. She basically hides him from everybody else and waits until everyone has passed by before she gives him the go-ahead to run free. It is truly a sweet scene and if you think about it, it takes on something of a comical approach when you imagine Lassie and fox scheming together in order to get out of that situation.

11. Beethoven

All in all, Beethoven is a pretty funny movie but it does have some serious scenes as well. With that being said, this isn’t one of them. This is the scene where Beethoven decides that there is no way he is going to be in a cage for the rest of his life and he decides to make break for it. Of course, the dog is probably more intelligent than the people he is running from, so it doesn’t really take a lot of effort on his part to break away. Before you know it, he is home free, running with abandon through the streets. The funny part comes when you watch those silly people chasing him as they try to keep up.

12. Air Bud

This movie is light-hearted overall, but the initial scenes will definitely make you want to reach for the box of tissues. The dog in question here is an adorable golden retriever that acts as the sidekick to a clown who does parties and the like. When the dog ends up being more popular than the clown, this lovely individual decides to kick the dog out right in the middle of the highway. Fortunately, the dog finds a young boy and the two become best friends. Before you know it, the dog is chasing the boy around in scene after scene as he (the dog) perfects his game of basketball.

13. Marley & Me

This is unquestionably one of the saddest movies about a dog that you will ever see. The main reason it is so sad is because the dog dies at the end. However, there are a number of things that are quite entertaining long before you ever get to that point and this is one of them. The dog, Marley, and one of his people decide to go to an outdoor restaurant. While there, the man ties Marley’s leash to one of the tables. Unfortunately, that table is not nearly heavy enough to hold Marley back when he decides he wants to chase something. You guessed it, before you know it, Marley, table and all, are dashing through the restaurant and clearing a path wherever they go. Chances are, you just might know what this feels like if you have ever owned a spirited dog yourself.

14. Turner & Hooch

This is the scene where Turner meets Hooch for the first time. Keep in mind, this guy has already heard all kinds of stories about the dog, so he’s bringing something of a peace offering with him. That peace offering just happens to be a muffin and the dog can smell it from a mile away. Before you know it, this animal that looks like some kind of creature from a horror movie is flying over the top of the fence straight at the guy. Whether you end up laughing harder at the man’s reaction or the way the dog looks is debatable, but you will be laughing.

15. K9

This is a movie that has a lot of great chase scenes and it’s just funny, to boot. That’s why you will find the movie itself listed twice here, although both scenes are obviously different. In this particular scene, K9 Officer Jerry Lee steps into the doorway of a bar and it’s already obvious that he’ll have his work cut out for him. As one guy tries to get away the dog traps him up against the wall and bites him right in the crotch. Furthermore, he refuses to let go until the guy tells his human partner everything he knows. If every K9 Officer did something similar, people might not be so inclined do something wrong in the first place.

16. K9 (again)

Here’s the second scene from this movie. If you have seen the movie, you know that Jerry Lee’s partner has an old Mustang convertible that he really loves. Unfortunately, he decides to tie Jerry Lee up, using the mirror on his Mustang as the anchoring point. The dog doesn’t really think too much of this, to say the least. Eventually, he lets his displeasure be known as he rips the mirror off the car and causes a scene. He starts by running through the place where his partner is having lunch (after drinking his iced tea) and then charges onto the beach to chase a frisbee, all with his partner trying woefully to keep up with him.

17. K911

You guessed it, this is the sequel to the movie K9. In this scene, the dog and his human partner are chasing another bad guy. This time, the guy is on the roof and the dog is on the ground. The dog keeps pointing out where the bad guy is, but his partner refuses to listen to him. This goes on for a while, as they run from one end of the building to the other. Eventually, the human component of this dynamic duo runs right into the bad guy and gets his clocked cleaned. The dog barks maniacally, almost as if he’s laughing at him. If you love movies where the dog is the star, you’ll love this one.

19. Marmaduke

You might think that you’re too much of an adult to watch this film, but it’s actually fairly entertaining. True, the dogs all talk, but what’s wrong with that? The scene in question here involves Marmaduke running through the house completely unchecked. It’s not really that no one is trying to catch him, it’s just that no one can. There are a couple of times when he almost gets caught, but everyone’s efforts fall short. The thing that makes it so funny is that the dog, who is bigger than your average dog to begin with, just causes havoc everywhere he goes. No one is safe, nor is anything that might be in his way. Again, this is something that many pet owners can identify with, as most dog owners have had at least one experience where they were trying to catch up with their unruly charge inside the house. When it happens, you just know that things are going to get broken. It may not be so funny in real life, but it sure is funny to watch it on television.

19. Emergency!

If you were born before or even during the 1970’s, you are probably quite familiar with this show. If you’re not, then you don’t know what you are missing. This is one of the best television shows that ever ran, in my humble opinion. More importantly, it demonstrated what it was like to be a Paramedic and it do it with accuracy, inspiring an entire generation to become Paramedics themselves. Now that I’ve stepped down off of y soap box, it’s time to talk about the clip involved here. This is from the episode where one of Johnny’s many dates brings him a present, in the form of a little dog. The problem is, the station already has a dog, Boot. Boot doesn’t really enjoy having his territory invaded and he decides to takes action. The two chase each other, and Roy and Johnny chase the dogs. The whole scene is hilarious and one you shouldn’t miss.

20. Ghost Whisperer

This is another television show that was quite popular during the time it aired. In fact, it has gathered a pretty large following even though it hasn’t been on the air for more than ten years now. The scene involves Homer, a dog who is actually a ghost. No one can see him except for Melinda, and other dogs. This is when things start to get funny. Melinda decides to go get some sage advice from a well-known dog trainer about her issue with Homer’s refusing to go to the light. Obviously, she can’t tell him this so she makes up some hypothetical situation. While they are talking, the other dogs see Homer and they go crazy. Next time your pooch starts acting like she’s lost her mind, you might stop and wonder if she’s actually chasing another dog that only she can see.

If you decide to watch all of these clips, you’ll have something to keep you busy for quite some time. Who knows, reading this article might cause you to watch a movie or a television show that you’ve never seen before. One of them on this list could become your new favorite when it comes to TV entertainment. At the very least, you’re bound to be in a better mood when you are finished watching these clips. Even if you are having a rough day, there’s just no way that you can watch all of these and not bust out laughing.

If you have the time, go ahead and watch all of the clips listed here and see which ones you like the best. There’s a better than average chance that you won’t be able to choose only one or two. There’s also a good chance that you’ll end up watching the entire movie or find a new favorite when it comes to television shows. Whatever the case might be, this list is designed to make you smile, so if you’re wondering what you’re going to do for entertainment in the coming days, surely you can find something on this list that piques your interest.
