20 Reasons Why Dogs Are Better Than Cats
We stand at a great divide, people. The line clearly drawn in the sand between cats and dogs. Though there are people who like both (which we can respect and understand), it should be quite clear we are dog people. Though most of this is intended to pump up the dog community even more so than they already are, at the end of the day a dog proves to be the animal we’d prefer to have. Keep in mind, we say this all in jest, and love all animals equally. Still though, here are 20 reasons why we like dogs better than cats!

They are selfless
Dogs are selfless and put themselves last, no matter what. A dog would push you out of the way of a rolling boulder and risk hurting itself than to see you harmed. Cats aren’t saviors of their owners quite as often as dogs are.

Protectors
Dogs serve and protect us. When was the last time you heard of a bomb sniffing cat? Dogs take jobs that clearly endanger their lives for our own betterment. Granted cats are starting to improve in these areas, dogs are the clear winners here.

They accept affection
Dogs let you spoil them. You ever try to give a toy or gift to a cat? It’s just not the same reaction. A dog knows when life is good, and knows how to wag its tail and lick your face to say thank you. Cats tend to look more distant and don’t seem as grateful for what you provide them.

Swimming
Dogs love a good swim now and then. A dog just kicks the legs and makes the most out of it. In fact many love the ocean, pools, and their toys in the water. It’s extremely rare to see a cat swim. They just don’t like the water nearly as much as dogs do.

Sense of Humor
They don’t mind playing dress up and getting silly with you. A dog in costume knows how to make the best of it. Cats on the other hand seem to look a little too serious when their owners try to have fun with them. Again, dogs come out ahead.

Let’s get in shape!
They love to exercise with you. When was the last time you took a cat for a walk? I saw a cat on a leash once, and it was not a very pleasant experience. But a dog? A dog would run a marathon with you, and do it with a smile! Plus they’d fetch anything from great distances. Good luck playing fetch with a cat!

Adorable looks
Those eyes. Seriously. That look a puppy dog gives you when you get the puppy eyes is like no other moment. It can melt even the most frozen of hearts. We don’t even need to say anymore about this one. That picture speaks for itself.

Loyalty
Dogs will literally die to protect the people they love. I know we touched on this in this first entry, but seriously, there are countless stories of dogs running back into burning houses to warn their families. Cats aren’t in nearly as many rescue stories as dogs. Advantage dogs.

They miss us
Dogs actually miss you when you leave, and cannot wait to see you again. You can leave for five minutes and your dog will act like it hasn’t seen you in five years. Often times cats seem as though they don’t care when their owners are gone. Granted they love their owners but just don’t show it in the same way dogs do. Dogs win again!

The Fun Factor
Dogs are just way more fun. Come on, when was the last time you saw a cat on a skateboard? Dogs surf and skateboard and ride on motorcycles and cool stuff like that. It’s not too often cats engage in tricks like these.

Dogs love everything
They know cats can be mean and be bullies sometimes, and they love them anyway. That pretty much says it all. Dogs seem to love every single thing on Earth universally. Cats have a more distant and cold demeanor than dogs do. It’s hard to tell when they’re happy.

Celebrities love them
The coolest celebrities in the world seem to know that dogs are better than cats. I mean, come on. Ryan Gosling has a dog, people. Not a cat. Seriously, though, I also think he gave his socks to his dog. That is a double win.

Forgiving
They forgive and forget everything. A dog can be mad at you, but forgets about thirty seconds later. You make a cat mad, then you should be prepared for a long time of making it up to them. Dogs move on way easier than cats do.

Attacking humans for no reason
A dog wont randomly scratch your eyes out if it is in a bad mood. Don’t get us wrong, dogs attack plenty. But usually there are reasons behind these attacks or they could be trained horribly. However, if that’s not the case a dog will rarely attack an owner. Cats on the other hand tend to claw and hiss just because they might be having a bad day.

Love for all animals
Dogs petty much love everything and anyone and leave their hearts open. I have seen dogs snuggle with ducks, pigs, chicks, birds, and nameless and countless other species. Cats aren’t that playful with other animals. They can be but not nearly as often as their canine counterparts.

Making the best of it
They seem to know how to make the best out of any scenario and any season. Seriously, when was the last time you saw a dog in a bad mood or depressed? Now think about this. On the other hand, do cats look like they’re in a good mood? Maybe it’s just the facial structure but come on, we’ve got a point here.

Mutual respect
They treat everyone and everything the exact same. They see no color and no gender and no species. They just are like this universal love machine that wants to hug and play with everyone. Cats seem to be way more selective in who they spend time with or who they’ll accept into their lives. Dogs accept anyone and any thing.

Expressive
They are loyal. If you treat your dog well your dog will follow you around, tail wagging as if it is just waiting for the next moment it can make you happy. There’s something more distant about a cat. The emotion factor definitely plays into this. Dogs are way more expressive in good times and bad.

Helping society
They live to please. Service dogs are one of the greatest things on this Earth. Dogs help out the military, veterans, children, the blind, you name it. While cats are starting to pick it up in these arenas, clearly dogs are way ahead in these areas.

Our friends
They are our best friends, no matter what and though thick and thin. We have all seen videos of dogs laying by their master’s graves for months. Dogs got nuts with emotion when their owners are away for long periods of time. It’s as if they are our children in many cases. There’s a more “human” bond with dogs than cats.

If only humans could be more like dogs, I believe this could solve most of our problems. See #18 above.
Yep, ALL dogs love to play fetch, swim, and would save their owners from a burning building. Every last one.
I have a cat Beatrice that fetches….as far as keeping your family from a burning building…..well here you go.

I’ve had cats that were very expressive. Actually they are loyal but insist on maintaining the air of independence.
Someone should go this video where a cat save his boy from a dog
You mean this one, right?
http://abcnews.go.com/US/video/family-cat-saves-boy-dog-attack-23718134
If you watch the video, you’ll see that the dog attacked that boy for absolutely no good reason. My ex-boyfriend owned a dog that would do the same thing: it was a toy breed so it wasn’t able to do a lot of damage but it would still go after you. No lie–this little dog of my ex’s would wag her tail and try to sniff your hand, then snarl and try to take a chunk out of it not a second later. I couldn’t stand that animal and did a fistpump when I heard it had to be put down. One of my other friends’ families had a German Shepard that would act aggressively for no reason at all; while trying to attack a letter carrier the dog jumped a fence, hanging itself in the process. My friend said he was about to throw a party when he heard the dog was gone. Yes, some dogs do attack with absolutely no provocation; it’s a myth to think otherwise.
As for the article itself: the cat I own can debunk 99.99% of this without even blinking. My cat is friendly, intelligent and trained. In other words, he’s smarter than the dogs my parents have owned.
I think I saw that one (if link below) – has to be when the cat comes out of nowhere and chases the dog away – I loved it… And as much as I like dogs – if I had one that attacks like, I’d put it down. When I had my little Maltese put down (14 yrs old – blind, deaf, and always scared), a lady was bringing in a beautiful German Sheperd to have put down – she said it bit her husband for no reason. Cats can be agressive and scratch, but rarely (if ever) do they kill kids.
#21. Dogs will always welcome you home after work
When I come home my cat will run from one side of the field as fast as she can actually skidding and almost falling to get to me, and the lovin’s I get is beyond words.
My female cat likes to follow me into the bathroom and wait for me while I take a shower.
We have the ability to pick and choose opinion, especially on-line. I have owned cats everyday for 40 years and what they say about dogs are very true. I have a Great Dane and love him immensely. However the communication I have with my cats goes way beyond the communication I have with our Great Dane. With cats it is always one on one they are not there to please everybody they are there to live with their caregiver and communicate. I can tell with a flick of their ear, or the movement of their tail what they are thinking. They play games with you that they actually teach you they like to play. As far as the look in a dogs eyes a it looks at you is absolutely no different when a cat looks into your eyes. My sister’s cat Mia will follow my sister around if she is upset and tries to get my Sis to look into her eyes. She is so diligent about doing this that my sister will finally stop and look into Mia’s very large and loving eyes and my Sis just melts at this heart warming jester from Mia. That is precious. I believe most folks that have had cats but never really bonded actually never really got to know them. When I ask people why they do or do not like cats, they say “Well they sleep all day and at night they are put outside.
Well there you go…..
I disagree that any animal is “Better” than another. They are all different just like people.
I love all animals unconditionally no matter what it is as they are all innocent and deserve respect.
I have two cats. My nephew found them in a box that was thrown from a passing car they were 4 or 5 weeks old. They have been with me for 2 years now. One of my neighbors who doesn’t like animals trapped my female cat and dumped her on one of our busiest street about a mile from home. I looked for her for 2 days. Day and night till 5 in the morning. NO LUCK!!! Then on Monday at 2:44 am Hannah walked through the cat door. I thank GOD for bringing her home safe and sound. Unfortunately the Authorities couldn’t do anything because I had no proof. Cats can be just as smart as dogs. I’ve had both plus Horses.
Curious if your neighbor trapped your cat because it was using his yard for a litter box. It’s the main reason people I know don’t like cats.
Most people who own dogs are mentally abusive to their dog due to laziness. Thats why I’ll get a cat. Because I’m also lazy. Its also mentally abusive to a cat to force him to stay inside.
You might see it as mentally abusive, and I do see your point. My cats love the outdoors, but with all the stories and hazards to a cat, I dare not let them out without me.
City life can be dangerous!
As for Ryan Gosling, I’m sorry but any man that wears slacks and dress shoes with no socks looks like (and most likely is) a sleeze bag….
People who are defending cats need to keep one thing in mind. This is a dog lovers site, and articles on why they feel cats aren’t as good as dogs can and will be found on here. That’s just a thing.
I am not much of a dog person, but I even agree to some of what this article is saying. I am a cat person, and had read it and noticed that they admit that cats have had their exception to the stereotypes. After all, who has heard of a cat that leads the blind?
Walking, definatly. My babies don’t care if they are leashed as long as I let them chew on grass. Getting them into it, cats are cats, but once it’s on, they move on.
