A Dog, Sawyer, With Broken Legs is Ready to be Adopted

According to Wane….

A dog that is still part of an open cruelty investigation is now ready to be adopted. 18-month-old Sawyer, a Yorkshire Terrier mix, was turned over to Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control on January 4 with two broken legs. Officials said Sawyer’s injuries did not appear to be consistent with being hit by a vehicle as the animal had no abrasions or scrapes. The bones in both legs were both cleanly broken.

An investigation into the injuries is still ongoing.  The Yorkie was placed into a private foster home until he was ready to be adopted.  Starting today, adoption profiles will be accepted for the dog. FWACC said a lottery system will be used to select an adoption candidate, who will be given an opportunity to meet Sawyer on Tuesday between noon and 5 p.m.

The shelter will select two alternates in the event that the first candidate declines the adoption. Only the family whose name is drawn from the lottery will be able to interact with Sawyer, due to the high number of people who have expressed interest in adopting the dog.

Good luck to the applicants and more importantly, good luck to Sawyer.  We’re so glad to see you are recovering!  We also hope that this investigation leads to some sort of justice in the matter.   If the dog was not in fact hit by a car then the guilty party or parties are out there somewhere and clearly deserve to be punished.
