Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMR) is a serious health condition, and one really amazing dog is working hard to bring awareness to this fact. SURFice dog Ricochet is a dog that loves to surf, and he’s making it his mission to give kids with this debilitating health condition a chance to do the same in an effort to bring awareness to this condition as well as smiles to the faces of the kids who suffer from it. SMR is a leading cause of infant mortality, and it’s a serious disease.
SMR affects a child’s ability to perform the basic functions important to living an independent life, and that’s a huge issue. But, the disease do not affect a child’s ability to learn, think, speak or enjoy life so long as their families and friends are willing to help them out when needed. While there are four stages of SMR, many of the kids who suffer from the disease are unable to walk, move or function on their own. Four-year-old Logan has the third type, and he’s basically unable to move on his own and even requires a feeding tube to ensure he receives nutrition in his body.
Ricochet got to know Logan recently, playing with him on the beach so that the little boy could get to know him and become friendly with him. This allowed the sweet dog and the little boy to become friends so that the dog could teach this amazing little boy to surf. It’s certainly not a sport that Logan will ever be able to do on his own, and this dog went out of his way to ensure that he had the chance to experience the sensation at least once.
Logan is just one of the many children living with SMR that Ricochet took surfing recently. He and a volunteer made sure that all these kids were able to enjoy something so amazing, and every one of them had the most amazing time.
