Despite their differences, Chihuahua dogs and Great Danes are both two popular breeds of dogs. With many people breeding different and new types of crossbreed canines all the time, it’s no surprise that some folks would try to breed a Chihuahua and a Great Dane, hoping to get the best of both dogs’ qualities. While many crossbreeds are successful and breed some very adorable and lovable dogs, there are also those crossbreeds don’t quite make it. So where do Chihuahua Great Dane mix dogs fall in the spectrum? We’re going to have to say that while it is possible, it is definitely not recommended. A Chihuahua and a Great Dane have procreated previously, but it is a very problematic situation and it all boils down to size.
Because of the incredible size difference, with Chihuahuas being teeny tiny and Great Danes being incredibly large and tall creatures, it simply isn’t the best fit for either of the dogs. For one thing, it’s hard for them to get impregnated and when they do, because the puppies would be too big for a Chihuahua mother to deliver naturally, they would need to be delivered via C-section. It is not recommended also because this breeding wouldn’t happen naturally because of such a difference in size. There would definitely be numerous complications that aren’t healthy for all involved, not only in delivery but also in pregnancy.
While it has happened before, most breeders will probably not go about practicing and breeding Chihuahuas and Great Danes and while you may be able to see a picture or two of them, they are very rare. If you do want something similar to what you would expect a Chihuahua Great Dane mix to be like, you’ll maybe want to consider getting a teacup Great Dane or a giant Chihuahua, if you can find them.
