Do you love going to the dentist? Some people really hate it, and others don’t mind it. I’m in the category of not minding it. I value my teeth and am very happy to say that at almost 33, I’ve never needed any dental work other than my cleanings – I’ve never even had a cavity. My two oldest daughters love the dentist. It’s not even natural; but it’s the truth. They adore him and love to go in and see him when it’s time for their cleanings. For those who aren’t so good with the dentist, though, there’s got to be something that can be done to make the visit more comfortable, less painful and a lot less scary. That’s what one dentist in Illinois thought. The Pediatric Dentistry of Northbrook offices thought that they might need to do something to ease the minds of their scared littlest patients.
So they got a dog. JoJo is a gorgeous Golden Retriever with a wonderful personality and a great ability to calm even the more terrified little patient into calmness. JoJo is a comfort dog with the proper training and the right type of personality. She knows that the best way to comfort a child is to become friends with them in the gentlest manner possible, and she knows this helps them. She then sits in their laps, loves them and allows them to use her to find comfort. So far, JoJo is working out quite well, and we think that more pediatric dentists should look into this kind of comfort dog.
