Five Things You Didn’t Know About the Teacup Pomsky

Different dog breeds come in and out of fashion. At the moment, there is a trend towards keeping smaller dogs as pets and this is possibly because their popularity has increased thanks to celebrities and social media sites. There is also a trend towards cross-breeding two different pedigrees so that you get a new breed of dog that has the best characteristics of each of its parent breeds. The teacup Pomsky is a type of dog that many people have not heard of but fits with both these trends. Here are five facts that you did not know about the Teacup Pomsky.

1. They Are a Cross Between a Pomeranian and a Husky

The Pomsky was created by cross-breeding Huskies with Pomeranians and the new breed has features of both these dogs, both in terms of its physical appearance and its personality. The named is a conjunction of the names of both these breeds. The Teacup Pomsky is simply the smallest variety of this dog that is available.

2. They Are a Delicate Breed of Dog

Due to their small size, the Teacup Pomsky is a delicate dog. This is despite the breed being crossed with the Husky which is generally perceived as a tough breed of dog. Owners must be careful with their pet and avoid too much rough play. If a Teacup Pomsky is handled roughly or dropped, it is at risk of suffering fractures and dislocations due to its size. This can lead to extreme pain and potential health problems in the future. In serious cases, a bad fracture can even lead to the death of the dog.

The Teacup Pomsky has a textured and thick coat. They are often described as fluffy and this is one of the features that makes people consider them as a cute pet. This coat is available in a wide range of different colors and this often depends on their parentage and general breeding history. Just some of the colors available include sable, beaver, red, lavender, orange, merle, cream, brindle, black, white, chocolate, and wolf sable. With such a wide range of colors available, there is the perfect Teacup Pomsky out there for all fans of this breed.

4. They Weigh Less Than Seven Pounds

According to the American Kennel Club, a Pomeranian or one of this breed crossed with another dog, including the Pomsky, is a Teacup variety if it weighs less than seven pounds. However, they can often weigh as little as three pounds. Dogs between three and seven pounds are categorized in the toy category by the American Kennel Club.

5. It is Known by Several Names

The Teacup Pomsky is known by several other names. These include the Toy Pomsky, the Miniature Pomsky, and the Pocket Pomsky. The breed is also regularly confused with a regular Teacup Pomeranian.
