Listen, when a dog knows, he knows. We like to say that it’s not humans who find their animals; it’s dogs that find their humans, and this is the kind of story that only proves that to us time and time again. When Dion Leonard decided to take part in something called the 4 Deserts Race Series, he knew he had to train hard. It’s a long race that is not for the weak. Part of the race involves a 155-mile run through the Gobi Desert in China. It’s long, it’s hot and it is not something that is easy to do. When he signed up for the race, he knew he would have a challenging road ahead of him, but he had no idea just how challenging it would be. He also had no idea that his life would change quite as much as it really did during this race.
There was a little dog that took part in the race on the first day. The man noticed her, but it took him a while to realize she was following him. In fact, she followed him for 77 miles of the 155-mile race. On the second day, she got right back up and began running again, staring at him the entire time. He knew that the dog was following him at that point, and when she showed up at his tent that night, he knew that they were family. The dog decided to come home with Leonard, and they made it happen despite the fact that it was a long process getting the dog from China to Scotland, where he lives. However, they are going to be a family by Christmas this year.
