If there was one dog who you could look at and think you completely understood in one glance it would be the Basset Hound. A dog that looks like it would rather be napping, but don’t let that fool you. A Basset Hound has a lot going on, and there are some basic health tips you should know about the breed if you choose to ever take care of one. Do not let that lazy look fool you, this dog can be quite a bit of work. (We mean that in the most loving way possible).

First things first (and most important), those ears. A Basset Hound’s ear are long and droopy. They can easily trap dirty, moisture, or other aspects that could ┬álead to more serious problems down the road. There are many special solutions that are made just to clean out a Basset Hound’s ears, and it can be a smart move getting (a vet recommended) solution if you have a Basset Hound.

Next thing you may want to be aware of is tooth care. We know of cases of tooth rot in Basset Hounds, especially in those hard to reach back teeth. Vets recommend a brushing a week. But people who have had bad experiences have even said that twice a week is smarter. Staying on top of dental care early on can save you a lot of hassle down the road.

Last, the eyes. They can get watery and a bit, how do we put this scientifically, boogery. It is good to ensure you clean the eyes regularly. Even a little warm water is all you will need in this scenario.
