If Your Dog Loves Peanut Butter You Better Read This

peanut butter

Peanut butter is a favorite of many people.  In fact every 1st day of March many people across the country celebrate the “National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day.”  You can do a lot of things with peanut butter including making a sandwich, pie, cake, ice cream and even to flavor dishes such as chicken.  But did you know that some dogs also love peanut butter?  I bet some people knew about it and some didn’t.  Below is a video clip of cute pups who simply love to eat peanut butter.

In the video you will see different breeds of dogs who simply can’t resist the great taste of good ‘ole peanut butter.  Each of the pups’ faces show how delighted they are to have the butter.  Some of them are even licking their mouth after they had swallowed the peanut butter. The video is very entertaining but before you decided to give your pooch a taste of peanut butter, you need to know a few important things that involve the safety of your four-legged friend.  The tips below also apply to dogs who already love to eat peanut butter.

Tip # 1:  You need to make sure that your dog is not allergic to peanuts.  If your pooch is allergic to peanuts then you might try giving him other food as a treat.  Signs of peanut allergy includes foot licking, red and itchy skin and shaking of the head repeatedly.

Tip # 2:  Don’t use a spoon when giving your dog peanut butter because it can damage your pet’s teeth.  Aside from that, peanut butter’s consistency is sticky and using a spoon can increase the risk of choking.

Tip # 3: Use creamy peanut butter for your pooch because it is not as sticky as the regular ones, which decreases the risk of choking especially for smaller pups.

Tip # 4: Choose a healthy peanut butter for your dog.  Always check the ingredients of the peanut butter before you buy it especially the ones with added sugar, salt and preservatives.

Tip # 5:  Don’t give peanut butter to your dog every day because it is full of fat.

I hope the above tips will be useful to you and your pooch.
