The Corgi Dog Breed is At Risk of Dying Out

Corgi

One of the most iconic of all dog breeds is the Corgi.  These regal animals have been the favorite of the British royal family for hundreds of years.  But sadly these small canines are in danger of becoming no more.

At the time of this article, only 274 new corgi pups were registered in 2014.  This very low number is very alarming to those who love this dog breed.  While this shortage would seem to spark a higher demand for these dogs, breeders are simply not producing animals.  In fact, many of them are worried that if they do breed their animals, they won’t be able to find proper homes for them.

Right now there are only around 5000 registered corgis in the entire UK.  This is very shocking and if the trend keeps up, we just might lose this iconic dog breed.  That’s really bad news for both the UK and the world.

Even the queen is not taking in any more of these animals, because they are a tripping hazard.  Can you imagine the royal palace without a single corgi running around?  While it hasn’t happened yet, it just might happen one day soon.

Other members of the royal family simply don’t have much interest in these dogs.  This means that after the queen has left the royal palace, you just might not be able to find a corgi there either. While its British tradition to have these little dogs running around, other members of the royal family favor different dogs, such as the Jack Russell terrier.

This is really sad news and I for one hope that they do something to hold on to this beautiful dog breed.  It would be a huge loss for history if these royal dogs were no longer a part of the UK.

So if you are a fan of the corgi, you might want to try and get one now before it is too late. While there is no word on have many of these dogs are being breed in other parts of the world.  The numbers are probably very low.
