So imagine this. You are running a marathon, completely in the zone, and you look up and see a dog running next to you. You think it is just a fluke, but there you are, miles later, and the dog is still running the marathon. At gets to the point when people are actually giving the dog water like they do for the humans who run. This is the true story of Boogie Butts. The dog that ran a marathon. Honestly, you can’t make up stuff this good.
So Boogie Butts actually ended up escaping from his home in Indiana that day, but we don’t think the dog just wanted to get away. Rather, the dog just wanted to run in the local marathon they were having. Seriously, this happened. The greatest part of the story is that the dog ran half the marathon, 13 miles, in just under two hours. Man, that canine did a lot better than I would have done, I can tell you that. After all the excitement was over, he just ended up heading home. But not before collecting a medal. Yup, you read that correctly. The dog that ran a marathon also got a medal for said marathon. How cool is that?
Unfortuantely Boogie passed away after the marathon. Boogie Butts died of a heart attack, the Associated Press reported via the Evansville Courier & Press. He was 10 years old, and his owner Jerry Butts announced his pet’s passing on Facebook. Still though, we’ll always remember him!
