Sometimes, you think you might have heard every “dog rescued” story there is, but this story proves you have not. This is not a fallen into the river or fallen into a well rescue. This is like something out of a cartoon or movie. In Newfoundland, a dog walked onto a patch of ice that then broke free and start floating away, leaving the dog stranded and surrounded by raging, icy waters. But you know no good humans are just going to let some dog just float away, so they reacted.
As Nova News reports, firefighters quickly came to the aid of the scared and trapped dog. The firefighters used an ice board and insulation jackets to stay warm and ensure their own safety, and they ended up getting to the dog and pulling him in within a half hour of him being trapped out there. Crazy to think what might have happened had the dog drifted away and no one knew. But we all know firefighters are the unsung heroes to all dogs, and yet again, this is a story where their selflessness and bravery led to a stranded dog being rescued from a certain fate. A fate that, frankly, we do not want to even think about.
The good news is the dog was returned to its owners and was fine after a quick warm up session. Huge shout out to Newfoundland fire department. You guys, like most who work in your field, are amazing souls and this world would be lost without you.
