The Tingum family got some bad news when their son was only 19 months old. After having behavior issues for most of his young life, the child was diagnosed with autism. The child was having difficult time as well as his mother and father. The child whose name is Garrett has grown over the years but has several health issues including severe autism. Due to his conditions he has to have adult supervision 24 hours a day. This was overwhelming for the family and something had to be done to help give them all some breathing room.
The family decided to get a family dog that would also serve as a service dog for Garrett. Garrett doesn’t understand dangers like other kids do and always seems to find himself in dangerous situations. He will often try to escape the house finding himself in danger and this terrifies his parents. Once outside, he runs in the street tries to get into cars and even has tried to get into people’s homes. Going outside of the home for the family used to be a nightmare that is before they adopted Ruby. Now the family can enjoy walks outside and they can even walk with Garrett on the sidewalk and in the park! This makes the family very happy and everyone gets to enjoy time together. Ruby is a very special dog and without her Garrett would never get to enjoy the great outdoors.
The family got Ruby from a group called Tender Loving Canines. This group specializes in training service dogs for families who need help. After Ruby came into the family things started to change for the better. The family could actually enjoy walks outside without having to worry as much. Ruby helps Garrett to actually calm down and focus on his surroundings instead of running around. Ruby is specially trained to assist children with autism and had to pass many different tests in order to become certified as a service dog. Ruby is a very calm pooch and she doesn’t get excited or bark loudly which is great because Garrett needs someone calm around him at all times.
