We often talk about how our dogs have saved our lives in some capacity, but we don’t necessarily mean it literally. Our dogs’ presence in our lives have been nothing but incredible emotional support and unconditional love, but for the most part, many of us haven’t been experienced nearly fatal incidents – at least, I sure would hope not! One woman can say that she has and that her dogs literally saved her life in the most amazing of ways. After Judy Muhe suffered from a near-fatal fall, the Palmdale, California resident thanked her guardian angels in the form of her two dogs, Dodger and Higgins. The 76-year-old woman credits her life being saved to her two canines.
Muhe, who lives by herself and has Parkinson’s disease, ended up breaking her shoulder and bruising her head after she fell in her kitchen. The elderly woman wasn’t able to get up on her own and since she was alone and no one heard the news that she fell, she ended up staying on the floor, drifting in and out of consciousness for a whole two days. She credits the presence of 10-year-old Higgins and 4-year-old Dodger, who are both Golden Retrievers, for keeping her alive during that time.
“They went for days without food and water. They stayed with me,” Muhe said. “By keeping me warm, and keeping me comfortable, as they could, the main thing was they let me know that I was not alone.”
After no one heard from her for two days, Muhe’s friend Kathy Jacobs was able to get into the woman’s home using a spare key. Jacobs immediately found the elderly lady on the floor, with her dogs stuck to her side. Jacobs recalls that the canines ran to the door when she first walked in and then ran back to where their owner was, as if to show that she was there. It’s incredible that Muhe is still there, as her condition could have cost her life.
“Because of her injuries and the time she spent laying on the floor and dehydrating, and being with her Parkinson’s, we probably would have lost her,” Jacobs explained.
