Life happens to everyone and everything. I want you to think for a minute what it would be like to be alone. Like, all alone, in a cage? What if life happened, and left you alone and at the mercy of someone else? Would you pray they would throw you a life line to save you? Would you hope some kind heart would save you from a sad and lonely life? That is how we feel about people who foster a shelter dog. They give these dogs a better chance at a better life, and here are five reasons why you should foster a shelter dog, too.
They Need the Love
These are dogs that, like I said, life happened to. They have been dealt a bad hand. They need love as much (if not more) than any other dog out there. You fostering them gives them the home and love they need until they can find a more “forever” version of that.
They Give the Love Back
You may foster for a week or a year, but however long you do, you get the love and attention you give the shelter dog right back. That is well worth it alone.
Keeps Them From Being Caged
Just the simple thought of a dog being caged for hours a day breaks my heart, and probably yours, too. You foster a shelter dog, you are taking them from the cage and granting them a healthier, happier life.
It Feeds the Soul
At the end of the day, knowing you took a caged dog and put a roof over its head is the best feeling in the world. You know the dog knows how lucky it is, and that is something that feeds the soul in ways words cannot describe.
You Save It
In some cases, by fostering a shelter dog, you could keep it from being euthanized or “put down” at some point. That, alone, should be incentive enough to consider it. Truth is, coming up with five reasons why you should foster a shelter dog was easy. Heck, we can’t think of a single reason why you shouldn’t.
