A beautiful golden retriever mix was left in a garbage can behind a meat market in South Korea many months ago. The beautiful dog was likely considered for a meal since it is highly common there to eat dog meat, though it is becoming more and more popular for the people in the area to actually keep their dogs as pets now. The dog was discovered in the trash can with all four of her legs bound together with wire. Her bones and tendons were visible and she was clearly in a lot of pain. Unable to move or walk on her own, she would have died in that garbage can had no one come to her rescue.
Fortunately, someone did. Sadly, though, it was quickly determined that she could not live if her legs remained on her body, and all four were amputated in order to save her life.
This darling dog was fitted for prosthetic legs and was given a second chance at life. When a Los Angeles based group began advertising her story, and they named her Chi Chi, a family called the Howell’s decided that they wanted to do something to help. They love animals and have always advocated for them and helped to rescue animals. They decided to donate to her health care costs, but later decided that they wanted to be the people who gave her a forever home. Now with her four new legs and her happy new attitude, she is learning along the way. She lives with them now in Arizona where she is happy, able to run and walk and play, and she is likely going to go through training to become a therapy dog so that she can pay it forward and help others in need when the time is right.
