Why The Great Dane Poodle Mix Makes A Great Pet

One of the hottest new designer dogs on the market today is the Great Dane Poodle Mix.  This very large dog breed is also known as the “Danoodle” but isn’t recognized as a standard breed.  Instead this dog is considered a hybrid cross.  But no matter how you classify this dog it is truly a beautiful animal.  The Danoodle has become highly sought after by those looking for the durable coat of a Poodle combined with the enormous size of the Great Dane.

So what do you actually get when you cross a Great Dane with a Poodle?

While the standard poodle is a large dog in its own right and when you cross breed it with a Great Dane you are going to get a really enormous animal.  Some of these dogs reach more than 100 pounds and their height is very similar to that of a full sized Great Dane.  This dog’s size might seem intimidating to some but it’s truly a gentle giant that seems to love everyone they come into contact with.

When it comes to coat color and texture the Danoodle often takes after its Poodle parent.  This characteristic is one reason why this dog is so popular. The hypoallergenic coat of the Poodle is often transferred to the offspring making the Danoodle great for people who suffer from allergies.  But this isn’t always the case because sometimes the Danoodle will come out with wiry hair more similar to the Great Dane.  The coat color of this giant dog breed is normally white to light grey which is a typical coat color for both the Poodle and the Great Dane.

What is the Danoodle’s temperament like?

Many people who have owned the Danoodle will tell you that this is the perfect family pet.  A very calm dog, this breed doesn’t get excited easily and will never jump up and down on house guests.  While these dogs are very large, they are very gentle making them perfect for families with children. They also do really well around other animals in the home.  But you should always watch your children around any dog that you first bring into the home.

So if you are looking for a medium to short haired dog that is great with kids, why not think about getting a Great Dane Poodle Mix?  If you have enough room for this huge but very sweet dog in your home you will be greatly rewarded by its companionship.
