A blind woman was out for a walk with her beloved service dog, when something terrible happened. Audrey Stone and her pooch Figo, was out on the streets of Brewster, New York. The pair were about to cross the street when the dog noticed a school bus coming in the woman’s direction. But instead of running away, the canine jumped in front of the bus trying to save his owner. Both the dog and the woman was badly injured. Figo was not even worried about his own injuries and stood there in the street right next to his owner, until help arrived. This brave canine just may have saved his owner from further injury, by taking some of the impact of the bus.
When rescuers arrived they could tell that the dog was very loyal to the owner and they worked quickly to save both of them. The woman was taken to the hospital and she suffered a broken elbow, ankle and also broken ribs. She also had a nasty head wound. But luckily the woman survived the incident, thanks to her dog Figo. The dog also had a broken leg and has to wear a splint for several weeks. The woman is still in the hospital and the clinic that treated Figo has said they will keep the dog until she is able to come home. This will give both the woman and the dog a chance to heal.
Figo the service dog went well beyond the call of duty to save his owner’s life. Audrey Stone is very thankful that her dog risked his own life to save hers. After she gets out of the hospital, she is planning on giving her dog lots of love and plenty of treats. This story turned out to have a happy ending, but it could have been much worse. If you are driving down the road and you see a person with a service animal, please slow down and pay careful attention. Even if you have the right of way, by slowing down and even stopping, you just might save the life of someone.
