In the city of Yuma, Arizona a starving Pitbull was found left for dead under a tree. The canine wondered under the tree, to try to get some shade from the hot sun. When the authorities were called out, their found the dog clinging to life and barely alive. After questioning people in the area, police were not able to determine who the dog’s owner was. There were no tags on the dog and it had not been micro chipped. People that lived in the area said that the dog just appeared out of nowhere and they had not seen the animal before. The Yuma Police are investigating and are trying to find the owner of the dog. When asked about the case, Sgt. Leanne Worthen said this about the situation “The problem with these types of cases is it is very difficult to find the owners, which is why we depend on information from witnesses or people who recognize the dog.”
The dog is now being called Lacy and is being cared for by Humane Society of Yuma. Lacy is being treated for malnutrition and is also suffering from tick fever, after being infested with the parasites. Due to poor treatment Lacy is much smaller than most dogs of her breed. She is only 18 pounds and other dogs like her are nearly 50 pounds. Lacy is at least 2 years old and is not expected to grow much larger. But thankfully she is doing really well and expected to make a full recovery. She is currently being housed at the shelter, but a foster parent might be utilized after she has fully recovered. Then she will be placed up for adoption, in hopes of finding a forever home.
Police are still looking for the person responsible for Lacy’s condition and has offered a $1000 reward for information that will led to an arrest. Sadly this community has seen a lot of animal abuse cases lately and they are fed up. The public is demanding that this problem be solved and people that abuse animals be brought to justice.
