Many of us do our home furniture shopping at the great store best known for its blue and yellow logo, IKEA. It’s a great place for many reasons: the prices for the furniture are reasonable, the layout of the store is very organized, they give great visual examples in their furnished rooms – and where else can you get delicious lingonberry juice outside of Sweden?! Just when the furnishing store couldn’t get any more alluring to potential customers, it turns out that they also are animal lovers. Another perk to shopping at IKEA? The great IKEA partners with animal shelters!
A few select IKEA stores will soon allow you to adopt a dog while you’re browsing their display rooms – and some have already started! In May, a store in Singapore partnered with a couple of animal shelters and formed a charity called “Home for Hope.” The charity’s strategy was to place lifelike cardboard cutouts of canines in their display rooms to help customers envision their home with a dog in it, which would then convince the customers to adopt the pup.
While the store in Singapore started the idea, the first U.S. IKEA store has done that same thing in Tempe, Arizona to support the project. The Tempe IKEA location has already signed off on adoptions in the state for the six dogs that were on display through their humane society. How amazing is that?!
