The Japanese Akita: Not All of These Dogs Are Dangerous

Japanese Akita

There are a lot of different working dog breeds that have seen their fair share of controversy over the years.  Many of these dogs have been labeled dangerous or untrainable by many people who don’t know the truth about these wonderful animals.

One of these canines is the Japanese Akita.  These ancient dogs were first used as hunting animals and guard dogs in Japan many centuries ago.  But they have now made it to most parts of the world and were brought in by breeders who have fallen in love with these dogs.

But just like every working dog breed, there have been people who tried to exploit their size and protective nature for profit.  The Japanese Akita fell victim to the world of dog fighting very early in its homeland and later again when it was brought to other parts of the world.  This is the main reason so many different incidents of attacks have been reported with this dog breed.

But not all dogs are the same, and with proper training the Japanese Akita can be a very calm and loving pet.  While they are very self-sufficient and can survive even in the harshest conditions, with the right training they survive as very smart protection dogs.

These dogs where born to protect their home and their family, and trying to take away the instinct will prove almost impossible.  But with proper early socialization and some obedience training, these dogs will be able to be around others without issue. This is good for both the dog and the people they are going to be around.

Every dog is different just like us humans and some tend to have more aggression to others.  So it would be wise to watch this dog breed around small children and other pets that may be in the home.  But with the right environment many of these dogs can be kept inside the home.

If you are planning on purchasing one of these dogs, you are going to have to spend a lot of time with your new pet as they are growing up.  Failure to properly socialize your dog will result in an animal that is laden with fear of others and they will be very dominating when it comes to their own personal space.  This is one of the reasons why so many of these dogs have attack people.  So make sure you have the time before even considering in bringing one of these dogs into your home.
