If you’ve seen Boo the dog, you know just how powerful his cuteness is. The adorable fluffy four-legged friend has caused quite the mass hysteria over the last couple of years with his cute face and fluffy body. People love him so much that there is merchandise of the dog all over the nation. He’s not quite a Pomeranian, but he’s also not quite a Husky – in fact, what many people don’t really know is that Boo is actually a Husky Pomeranian mix, also known as a Pomsky!
Pomskies are a relatively new breed of dog whose popularity is growing quite swiftly all through the U.S. and Europe. They are a cross between a female Husky and a male Pomeranian. As you can imagine, they possess a great deal of energy and are very, very playful little creatures. They are also highly intelligent and often respond well to reward-based training. The downside is that they can sometimes inherit the stubbornness of the Pomeranian and need to be handled in a calm but assertive way.
Much like their physical characteristics, a Pomsky’s temperament is hard to predict, but they almost always inherit the desirable characteristics of both Huskies and Siberian Huskies. They are intelligent, self-assured, playful and very loving. They make great guard dogs because they are highly protective of their owners.
Their life expectancy is fairly high, ranging from 13 to 15 years old. Their common health problems include suffering from dental issues due to plaque buildup and they should be taken for regular checkups. Likewise, they are also very energetic and playful dogs and requires only a fair deal of exercise, as they have tons of energy and already make sure they frolic and play. However, Pomsky parents should cater to their dogs’ exercise needs, as they can turn destructive and may even develop behavioral problems if they have no outlet for all that energy.
