When 58-year-old Wendell Joyner’s Florida home caught on fire in the early morning hours last week, he made sure he was able to get out of the house before it was too late. Unfortunately, he realized when he got outside that his dogs did not make it out. Because he loves his two dogs, the man ran back into the house. However, police officers and fire department officials warned him not to go inside. He was overcome by the smoke and had to come back outside. The police warned him again to stay out of the house for his own safety, but Joyner decided that his dog’s lives were far more important than his own and he grabbed an ax he saw lying on the ground and broke a window.
Before he could get into the home to save his dogs, he was grabbed by the police. They tackled him and arrested him. He was not able to get inside the home to save his dogs but the firefighters that were handling the blaze, thankfully, were able to get inside the house and make sure that the dogs were all right. They are all right and they are currently recovering. However, Joyner was arrested, taken to jail and forced to spend his time there; all because he wanted to save his dogs lives. It just goes to show that dogs are not just animals to so many people; they are family. This man did, undoubtedly, what so many others would have done in the same situation.
