In one of the biggest dog fighting ring raids in history, more than 350 starving, neglected and abused dogs have been rescued. The horrible abuse of these dogs spanned across several states, including Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. Just by looking at the poor canines, one could tell that unspeakable and horrifying things were done to them.
One of the youngest dogs that was rescued was an 8 week-old pit bull named Timmy Cooper. Timmy the pit bull was treated so poorly that he has become the poster puppy for abused animals with the ASPCA. Just looking at his precious face taken the day he was rescued is enough to break your heart, but thankfully his story has a much happier ending.
The Humane Society of the United States and the ASPCA worked alongside the government to complete the massive raid. Timmy the pit bull was just one of the hundreds of dogs that were saved from a terrible fate – the life the poor pup endured was quite cruel. Not just one or two people were involved; multiple people were responsible for the mistreatment of these animals. Ten suspects were arrested and indicted on felony dogfighting charges, as bodies of dead animals were found all over the properties. Lucky for Timmy, he was able to escape that fate.
Nine months after the dogs were rescued, 10 out of the 14 defendants pleaded guilty. Most of the rescued dogs are either adopted or in the process of finding a good, loving home.
