Imagine having your pet dog go missing six years ago – chances are, you probably would have already given up hope to be reunited with it once again a long time ago. That’s exactly the feeling one family got when their Yorkie that went missing for six years turned up again – several states over! Bailey, an adorable little Yorkie, had gone missing from his Austin, Texas home over half a decade ago.
The folks at Post Pet Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana had seen the pup around, often with a bone in its mouth wandering around. One day, a stranger there noticed that the dog looked like he needed medical attention, so the kind stranger scooped up the canine and took it to a vet.
“Looking at him when he came in, we were like, ‘He is not going to be chipped’ because he was covered in fleas, looked terrible, teeth were terrible,” said Diana Redmond, a vet tech who worked at the hospital.
When they scanned the dog for a microchip, they surprisingly found one – which is how they learned that the pooch was not from Indiana, but Austin, Texas. While the dog was already missing for so long, they learned that the dog’s family didn’t care about that fact at all! They still missed their beloved little angel and lo and behold, the contact numbers in the microchip were still working and updated (which was surprising) – so they made some calls.
“She could barely talk. ‘I’m overwhelmed. I’m so excited. I’m not making any sense. Oh my gosh! He is my family,’” Redmond recalled Bailey’s proud mom saying over the phone.
Now that the dog was found, it was time to start finding a way to get the dog to move back home where he belongs. After all, they needed to get him from Indiana to Texas! A Go Fund Me page was set up for the poor pup’s trip back home. Bailey is set to reunite with his family this coming Thursday.
