Truck Driver Takes a Missing Dog Over 1300 Miles to His Home

As horrible as the news can be most of the time, sometimes a heartwarming story will come up that just seems to erase and overpower the bad stuff. One such story is a recent one that shows that there is actually kindness and goodness in the hearts of strangers in this world. After an Arizona family’s missing Bull Mastiff was found, a kind-hearted truck driver selflessly drove from Nebraska to Arizona in order to reunite the dog with its family.

Owners Dani and Jason Windham were getting ready to get married at their home in Nebraska when their three dogs, Koda, Finn and Hooch ended up knocking down the fence in the yard and taking off. The Windhams’ friends and family attempted to try to find the canines before the wedding ceremony, but they had left the area. Luckily, just 12 hours later, authorities alerted the couple that two of the dogs, Finn and Hooch, were found by animal control, but the other canine Koda was still missing. Unfortunately, a week later when the couple was set to relocate and move to Arizona because of Jason’s job, the dog was still missing.

Things took a turn just two months later, though, when a farmer in Wahoo, Nebraska alerted authorities about a loose dog who was chasing his cows. The canine was captured and taken to the local veterinary clinic and was scanned for a microchip. Sure enough, it turned out to be Koda, the Windhams’ dog; he was found safe and sound – 20 pounds lighter, but still healthy! While this was amazing news, the truth is that the couple just didn’t have the funds to have Koda fly or even drive up themselves to come get her. Thanks to the kindness of others, including the Lost Pets of Lancaster County and the Journal Star, a man named Jimmy Dimmitt was in the picture – ready and willing to help out. After all, the man is a self-proclaimed major dog lover! He ended up jumping right in to help out the Windhams with their dilemma to get their beloved Koda.

“There was no hesitation on my part,” he explained.

Thanks to Jimmy, the missing dog ended up right on schedule and hitched a ride with the kind man and his girlfriend. Koda was finally reunited with the family at a truck stop just right outside of Flagstaff, Arizona. Upon seeing their beloved dog again, Dani couldn’t help herself and immediately rushed to see the dog she so very missed. She admitted, “I jumped out of the truck before he (Jason) put it in park.”

The family’s exciting and heartwarming reunion was caught on tape, with Dani giving Jimmy a huge hug while the dog was leaping around in excitement.

“Dani and Jason were so very thankful,” Jimmy said. “I was glad I could do my part.”
