The dogs in this photo are Vito and Maggie. Both of them have lived very difficult lives. Growing up, they were both raised in different dog fighting rings. They’d spend their days locked in kennels not appropriate for dogs like themselves, neglected and ignored and encouraged to fight for their lives. They were baited and set loose on other animals with the hope that they would win each fight, but the knowledge that they might end up dead as a result. Both dogs were good fighters, apparently, since they lived. However, that does not mean that they had an easy life. Fortunately, both were rescued. They were not socialized, and their only other interaction with dogs had been to fight them.
After being raised in an environment that meant they were taught to attack first and never ask questions, many people assume that they’ll never get along with other animals or even humans. However, both were treated for their many injuries and taken somewhere in which they could be rehabilitated and cared for. What this meant for the dogs is that they learned how not to fight, how to be calm and how to properly interact with other dogs and animals. The Detroit Bully Corps decided to have these two dogs meet to see if their extensive rehab and new training had paid off; and it did. These dogs were not at all aggressive with one another. In fact, they ran around, they played and they had fun together; and it was a nice idea.
