We gotta tell you, to see a human rescuing a dog in a picture or video is amazing. It fills us with a sense of relief that humans are still good and pure, and that the love dogs give us is the love we are wiling to give back, no questions asked. But let me tell you, nothing can compare to the feeling of seeing that in person. Of seeing a human risk their life to save a dog. If you think a picture is worth a thousand words, you have no idea.
If you know where to look, you can see human rescuing a dog stories every day. Great stories that remind you life (and people) are not all bad. But if you are ever in a situation where you walk in on a rescue and get to see it first hand, let me tell you, it fills you with the kind of feeling you have never had before. Even as a dog lover who had seen tons of rescues online, seeing a dog get pulled from any icy river in person is the kind of thing that puts chills all the way up your spine.
Sometimes, we think it is always the dogs who run in and risk themselves to save us, but when you see something like that first hand, it changes your perspective on those around you. You realize that you could be surrounded by selfless heroes at any time and not know it. The kind of person who runs in to save an animal while putting their own safety on the back burner is the best kind of person of all. And though I pray you never need to see a rescue, if you do, it will be a moment that will etch itself forever into your soul.
