Woman Starts A Senior Dog Retirement Home For Unwanted, Older Pets

Just like puppies, older dogs need love and a home to call their own.  But for some senior dogs, this is not the case.  Due to many factors, older dogs are often the ones that are surrendered to dog shelters.  This very sad and seeing an older dog be put to sleep simply because they have no home to call their own, is heart breaking.  But thankfully there is a group of people that is trying to something about this issue.  While they can’t help every older dog out there, they can help a few.

A senior dog retirement home was set up by Sher Polvinale, who runs this special kind of shelter with the help of volunteers. The dogs who are at the retirement home are allowed to comfortable live there, without ever having to worry about being put to sleep.  These canines get to spend their golden years in a fun and loving environment.  The home was properly named House with a Heart Senior Pet Sanctuary.  While at the home these dogs get all of the medical attention they need, in order to live out their days as pain free as possible.

It’s a full time job taking care of these dogs, but the group really loves the work that they do.  Running the retirement home is very costly and just one dog ended up needing over $8000 worth of medical attention.  But the group is able to keep things running thanks to donations.  Also the volunteers make it possible for these animals to be cared for around the clock.  Many of the dogs have health issues and need to be looked after each and every day.  Feeding time at the home is really something special and each dog is given their own meal, catered to their needs.  There are 25 dogs who call this place home and many of the dogs have different needs when it comes to feeding time.  Some require medication at meal times and keeping track of everything is a difficult task.  But the group works hard to give these ageing canines a safe and happy home, for the rest of their lives.
