An Aurora, Colorado woman by the name of Cherica Winston is facing animal cruelty charges right now after she posted a terrible status update to her Facebook page recently. The post, which you can see here, stated that she was using a taser and a BB gun on a pit bull in her care. Pit bulls are banned in this area of Colorado, but that is not what had residents up in arms. Many of the people who read Winston’s status were outraged and horrified that she would treat a dog like this, and the local police department received this message several times from concerned citizens; the received it enough that they posted it to their own Facebook page.
A friend of Winston’s who works for a nonprofit organization was one of the many people that contacted authorities. He also contacted Winston, but she was rude to him and he decided that as a dog lover and owner himself, he could not stand for this. So, he called the police. They immediately went to the 31-year-old woman’s house and found the dog locked in a crate covered in its own urine and feces.
They took the dog to the local rescue and she is currently facing charges. The good news is that the police were unable to find any evidence that the dog was either tasered or shot with a BB gun, which is such a relief. The dog is currently in custody at a shelter, but there is no word whether or not the dog is a pit bull, which is banned in the area. There is also no word as to whether or not the dog will be sent to a shelter in a location in which pits are not banned or if it will be returned to its owner as Winston was allegedly watching the dog for someone else. Additionally, there is no word as to how long the dog will be in custody.
