When Your Dogs Don’t Get Along
Your love for dogs is amazing and you should win an award for how loving you are towards them. This might not seem like a problem, but it can sure become one! Loving every dog can mean that you end up with two or three of them. Possibly even four! When you have that many dogs in one house it can cause a lot of territorial issues amongst each one of the dogs. The way you want them to play isn’t panning out the way that you had planned and your dogs just aren’t getting along with each other. When a problem emerges like your dogs not getting along, it can become very frustrating for the entire household. Whether you are with roommates, your family, or even by yourself, your dogs behavior effects everything and everyone surrounded by it. Is it possible to get this madness to end when each one of your dogs is not getting along with one another due to personality clashes?
Your dogs are basically your children, and, well, children tend to fight. When will this madness stop, though? Is it because they are puppies? Is it because one is a puppy and the other one is five? Are there any legitimate answers to these questions or do some dogs not get along for random reasons? Many dogs have issues with their territory and what they think is theirs. If they are eating, no other dog can eat. If they are with their owner, no other dog can come close to them. The one thing that you must do if your dogs do not get along is to keep them separated. When you go to the grocery store or out to dinner, you will need to lock them both in different rooms or provide cages for each of them. They will need to learn how to leave each other alone which is a training session that you will have to teach. In order to get your dogs to behave properly, yelling is not the answer. Training is. You need to teach your dogs that fighting is not the answer and they need to leave one another alone. Get them to understand that when one of them is angry at the other they need to grab a toy instead of fighting. You will have fewer fights this way and be able to obtain peace and quiet in your household.
When it comes to sharing, different dogs have different rules. Sometimes they might not want to share the couch with the other dogs, but they will have to learn to be nice. One thing that you can do to keep down the controversy is to sit in between them. Train them to be able to sit on the couch with each other. Let them become familiar with one another and possibly “assign” them a side of the couch that they are allowed to lay on. Dealing with dogs that don’t get along can become extremely difficult if you let the situation get out of hand. Attack the problem before the dogs start attacking each other!
