20 Things Only Siberian Husky Owners Understand
The Siberian Husky is the kind of dog that makes you feel like you’ve won the lottery. It’s gorgeous. It’s beautiful. It’s so intelligent and lovely that you will never want another breed. It’s a beautiful dog. And there are a few things about this particular breed that are relatively unknown to anyone that doesn’t have one. You might think you know all about the husky, but you have no idea just what the truth is like living with this breed unless you have one. Read on to find out the 20 things that only Siberian husky owners can relate to. You might be surprised at a few, but probably not.

You do not have a Wolf…But No One Believes You
No, really, sir, this is not a wolf. Yes it is. No, it isn’t. I think I know what a wolf looks like. Right, apparently not because this is not a wolf. Whatever, dude. This is the typical conversation you’ll have each and every time you take your Siberian Husky out in public. And it never, ever fails. This will happen to you daily. Nightly, all the time; it happens. People just don’t get it, and they refuse to believe it.

Gates Don’t Stop Them
Owning a dog like this makes you realize that baby gates and doggie gates are pointless and obsolete. You can do what you want, get the best one on the market, get the tallest one on the market; it doesn’t matter. Your dog will find a way out when it wants out – or in. There is no ‘off limits’ space where this type of dog is concerned.

They look Meaner than they Are
This dog makes a great watch dog if all people do is look at it. It has the expression of a beast – and most people think it’s a wolf they don’t want to mess with in the first place. But it’s not a beast. It’s actually a very sweet dog that wants to love you and play with you and be your friend. It’s less likely to attack someone with ferocity than it is to attack them with love and kisses. That’s just the truth.

Your Dog or your Garden
You cannot have both. I’m sorry. But you know this. Your dog will make sure your yard looks like the equivalent of nothingness, and it will love doing it. It’s cute, though. Okay, it’s not cute. Your neighbors are going to hate you and wish you would get rid of the dog or hire a landscaper because your garden is about to bring down the value of the entire neighborhood. Oh yes, you are those people.

You Know the Zoomie
You know what this means only if you have this breed. It’s the act of a large dog zooming through the house like a crazed animal jumping on the furniture, over it, around the hall, around the rooms and back again. It’s not Superman. It’s not a bolt of lightning. It’s the dog; and it has no intention of slowing down until it is good and ready. So don’t go rushing him. He doesn’t like that.

Fur, Fur, Everywhere, All the Time, Every Single Day
Well, what did you expect when you decided to live with a dog that looks like the supermodel version of a wolf? All that glorious fur comes out, you know. And it comes out all over your furniture. Your car, your bed, your carpet, your kitchen, your clothes; it’s enough to make you long for the days postpartum when your hair was falling out in record amounts and leaving you a little bald. Because that had to be better than the dog fur.

They’re Great Guard Dogs…In Sight
This is the kind of dog that is going to make people turn around and run, not walk, as quickly as possible in the opposite direction. Think about it. Who wants to get into a tussle with a wolf? So as far as the eye can see, this is a great dog to keep you safe and protect your home. But any brave criminals will learn very quickly that this is a dog less interested in protecting you than getting a treat or being played with. It’s just the life story of a dog that loves attention.

Fences Don’t Stop Them
You can get a fence, and you can let the dog out and hope that the fence will keep the dog in your yard, but you’d be incorrect. There is nothing tall enough or forceful enough to keep this dog inside or outside of anything that it feels it should be. Just saying. You’re going to realize quickly that nothing stops this gorgeous dog. Nothing.

They’re Magical
I mean, really magical. And not just in the way that they will captivate you with their beauty and their prowess, but actually magical. I’ve already mentioned that there is no gate or fence that will keep this dog at bay, so the only other explanation is that it has magical teleporting powers that allow it to move and wander and do what it wants. It’s a beautiful dog, but it’s one that can do things you cannot explain.

They Love to Sing
You will never need to listen to the radio again, so you can probably save on your XM satellite bill and you can definitely save on the cost of surround sound. This dog loves to sing to you and if you listen closely enough, it’s pretty much a guarantee that the dog is singing that it loves you. I mean, really. This dog has some serious vocal powers you just know nothing about.

The Dog Walks You
It’s so cute when people say things like, “I’m taking the dog for a walk,” because it’s not true. Sure, they might think that it’s true. But it’s not. Siberian Huskies are not ‘walked’ but they will take you for a walk. They are leaders, and unless you are so powerful that you can handle them, they will walk you. Not to worry, however, you will like it.

No Sleeping Position Surprises You, Ever
There was once a time, pre-husky, when you might have thought that a dog sleeping flat on its back with its legs in the air was a strange and really cool experience. Now, not so much. Now that is something that makes you say, “Um, no, not really special,” since you’ve seen it all. This is a breed that can not only get comfortable in the strangest positions, but is actually looking to see that it can get comfortable in the strangest of positions on a regular basis.

Your Dog or your Shoes
Ladies, if you love your Louboutins, keep them up high. You know this dog will eat a shoe if it has the opportunity. One forgotten moment with one shoe on the floor means that your dog is going to tear them up and make them his business. It’s a game to him, and he doesn’t care how much they cost, how much you love them, or what you think of this. If it’s within reach, it’s a snack.

They’re Diggers
The yard is a magical place in which anything can happen, and it will happen with this dog around. No, seriously, this is a dog that will dig and dig and dig until it is finished. And nothing you can say or do is going to stop this from occurring. In fact, your dog might pause and then smile at you with a rather wolfish smile before continuing on with its job digging up your entire yard as if it’s being paid to clear your land.

The Head Tilt of Understanding
Dogs understand people quite well, this is not a secret. But your Siberian Husky makes sure you know that it’s listening. It will tilt its head to the side and look at you the same way you look at him when he’s talking to you. You know what? Scratch that; he’s probably just mocking you. It’s not like he listens to you when you tell him no, he can’t do this or that or the other, so why would he pretend to listen now?

They Own Your House
This is a true story; the dog runs your house. You are just a guest in it. You don’t get to make decisions. He just needs you to work and pay the bills, but he owns the house. It’s all right, though. This is a dog so pretty that you won’t care if it makes it a point to own your house. You will just be happy that you have it and that it wants to come cuddle with you at the end of the day.

Their Smile Melts your Heart
Have you ever seen a Siberian husky smile? Of course you have, if you are the owner of one. This is a dog that has a real smile. Not just the kind of smile that makes it look like maybe it’s smiling. This is a dog that actually looks as if it is smiling, and that might be one of the cutest things you’ve ever seen. It’s really very sweet, this adorable dog. You will find your heart melting and your anger or whatever you’re feeling after finding your Manolos on the floor dissipating.

The Cat is not Safe
Small animals beware. This is a dog that is quite friendly and looking for affection, but it does love to chase small animals around like it’s a job. So the cat might not be one that the dog chooses to eat or anything like that, but it’s certainly going to get some exercise running from this dog. But just look at the bright side; if you have a fat cat in need of a diet, you should get a husky and let it motivate your dog to work out a bit.

They’re Lovers
These dogs are not fighters. They’re lovers. They want to be close to you. They want to be near you. They want to sleep with you and cuddle with you and sit by you and be with you all the time. They’re all right when you go to work or run errands; they won’t get mad. But let me just assure you that this is a dog that will be as close to you as possible when the opportunity arises. It loves you. It loves all things that involve you.

Their Eyes are Unforgettable
If you want to see beautiful eyes, look no further than your dog. Those big, clear blue eyes are enough to make your heart melt and your troubles fade away into nothingness. These are exceptionally beautiful dogs with exceptionally beautiful faces, and their eyes are just mesmerizing. We love them. You will love them. It’s hard to say no to a dog that can look at you with this expression on its face.
