Is the Doberman Pinscher the Right Breed for You?
The idea of a new dog seems like a lot of fun for most people, unless said people are in the market for a new dog because they are afraid to be home without one. Then it’s a lot less fun and a lot more necessary. But the simple fact is this; no matter the reasons you feel you need and/or want a dog, you should really do some basic math to figure out which dog is right for you. Not all dogs are right for all people, and not all households are right for all dogs. After all, you wouldn’t put a giant Great Dane in a studio apartment in New York City with 400 square feet of living space, since that’s about the size of the dog in the first place, right? Right; so why would you get a dog that doesn’t fit into your current lifestyle in other manners? The Doberman Pinscher, for example, is a beautiful dog with so much to offer so many families, but that does not mean it’s the dog for you. If you are interested in this breed, and you probably are, you should learn as much about it as you can so that you can make sure it’s the dog for you. So here are a few things that you should know about the Doberman before you bring one home to your house.
He’s Watchful
One of the most prominent reasons that people choose this dog is the fact that it is such a watchful dog. It’s a protector and it’s vigilant and it is the kind of dog that will do whatever it takes to protect its home and its family. This means that you will always know if someone or something is amiss, coming your way or happening. There is little that this dog misses, if anything at all.
He’s Fearless
The Doberman Pinscher does not get its reputation for being a brave and protective dog for no reason. This is a fearless breed that is going to do whatever it takes to protect you, your kids and your home. This is a breed that is going to protect and serve and make sure that you are always safe. You’re going to feel that with this dog, too.
He’s Energetic
What most people fail to realize is that this is a very energetic breed that loves to play, work and run. It needs a yard in which it can do these things regularly, or at least a place you can walk this dog every day so that it can take part in these types of activities. It is not a dog meant to be cooped up for long periods of time, and it really does need to have serious exercise. This dog has a wonderful shape and physique, and it requires work to keep that in line.
He’s Easily Trainable
A highly intelligent breed, you will find it quite easy to train this dog. It is another of the wonderful reasons people love it so; it’s very popular and very happy to be learn. It wants to please you and it wants to learn, so it’s going to do that. You will find that this dog is so trainable that there is very little issue in the process. It makes it easier on all involved when the dog is intelligent enough to pick up on things right away rather than after time.
He’s Very Loyal
Once you bring this breed home, you will find that it is exceptionally loyal. It will spend every moment protecting you and making you feel loved and secure. It will become your dog and it will want to be close to you. It certainly is not a lap dog, but that doesn’t mean it does not enjoy being close to you, having your affection and showing you affection in return.
He’s Popular
The Doberman Pinscher might not seem like a family dog – at least if you ask many people who know very little about it – but it’s a dog that does love its family and its life with you. It might be for this exact reason that this dog is so popular. Of all the dog breeds in the world, the American Kennel Club ranks this breed as the 14th most popular, which is proof that so many people do love and enjoy this lovely breed. There has to be a reason so many people love it, and the proof is in the ranking.
He’s Easy to Groom
With a short coat, this is a dog that’s easy to groom. It requires minimal effort and will not shed as much as other dogs. To prevent as little shedding as you might experience, however, you can give the dog a good brush once or twice a week just to capture the dead hair in the brush rather than all over your couch or carpet. It’s a simple fix that will make a huge difference in your life, which is always helpful and quite welcome.
He’s Healthy
Something that all potential dog owners should consider is the overall health of a dog. For example, this is a breed that is quite healthy and that means that it’s more likely it will live a long and healthy life. But that does not mean it’s not going to get sick or ill. All that this means is that it’s not a breed that has any breed-specific health issues to watch out for. It does, however, have just as much chance of getting sick as any other dog breed, but no more than that.
These are just a few of the things that you have to watch out for when you are getting a new dog. Knowing this information ahead of time will make it much easier for you to have an easier time figuring out what kind of animal you want in the home, which breed is right for you and what to expect once you get a dog home. This can really make all the difference.
