So much more goes into adopting or purchasing a dog than many people care to bother with. It’s not just finding a dog, buy a dog, and bring a dog home. It’s a process that requires a lot of paperwork, a lot of consideration and a lot of time and patience. And this is especially true if you are looking to adopt or purchase Bichon Frise puppies. These are not inexpensive puppies, and they are not all that easily found unless you work directly with a breeder. You will find very few of these up for adoption and if you do, chances are good that the list to adopt one is quite long. This is a breed that is small, adorable and highly intelligent, which makes people desire their own even more. If you want Bichon Frise puppies of your own, chances are good that you’re going to have to buy one from a breeder and bring it into your family this way. And we have some advice you need to know before you start this process and while you’re going through the process of obtaining Bichon Frise puppies.

Do You Really Want a Dog?

Do you really want a dog? You might think that you do, because they’re cute and saying you want one is easy. Do you just think that you want one because you see how sweet and adorable they are, or do you have any idea that you actually have quite a bit of work cut out for you when you bring home a puppy like this? Are you ready for constant puppy training, potty training and teaching your dog obedience? Are you ready for frequent walks, time outside to play, and are you ready to have to figure out where you take your puppy every time you want to go out of town for the weekend? It’s a lot of hard work, and you have to consider this before you choose a puppy of your own. It’s far better to realize before the process that a puppy  may not be quite right for you than it is to realize this once you put forth all the effort and then get a dog home that you just don’t really want.

The Process is Not Simple

There is a lot that goes into adopting and purchasing Bichon Frise puppies. You have to apply for one; you can’t just go buy one and go home. There is a process. You will need to provide a lot of personal information, and you might even find that the breeder or rescue wants to perform a home visit. This might mean that someone will come to your house, assess the size, the condition, the yard, the location and your family to determine whether or not a dog can live happily in your house. And while I don’t know of anyone who has not passed this process personally, I can assure you that it’s probably not easy to hear someone tell you that your home and your family are not quite ready for a dog.

The process could take months, or even a year. It all depends on where you are, what you’re looking for and what’s available. This is a very popular breed, which means you might find yourself on a waiting list at a rescue or even a breeder’s home. It’s a process that requires a lot of patience since it’s not something you can always have right away. I know that I, personally, am a bit of an impatient person and anytime I have to wait on something like this it feels very disheartening. You just have to remember that you will eventually get your Bichon Frise puppy, but you have to be very patient in the meantime.

There are Many Considerations to Make

Before you can bring your dog home with you, you have to have everything you need. This could include everything from a crate to a leash to a collar to food dishes, a bed, toys and treats. You might need a myriad of other items, too, depending on how you plan on training your dog to obey and to use the bathroom. You will need to go a lot of shopping, and it’s not always fun to do that without a dog at home already, but you want to be prepared before you get the dog home and realize you have absolutely nothing.

Additionally, you have to consider your household. Do you have other animals? If you do, you might have an issue with them bringing home your new puppy. They might be less than thrilled to find out that you are bringing home something that you can love and that might take some of the attention off of them, and it’s not always an easy thing for another cat or dog to realize. You’ll need to have a plan of action for how you will keep the animals from fighting until they are used to one another. You will need a plan of action that allows you to figure out how you will train your dog, how you will discipline your dog, how you will walk and exercise your dog and even when you will take the dog to the vet. You’ll need to find a reputable breeder, you’ll need to find a reputable vet, and you’ll need to consider the cost of raising Bichon Frise puppies so that you can ensure you can actually afford to do just that.

The concept of bringing home a new puppy is one that can be a bit overwhelming, even if it is very exciting. You want to ensure that you have what you need, and that you are mentally and emotionally prepared for the change that a new puppy is going to bring into your life. Bichon Frise puppies are a lifetime commitment that you can’t just have for a few weeks and then return. You have to be prepared to spend the next decade or so catering to this dog, and that’s a big deal.
