Dog owners can all agree on one thing; training a dog is a commitment. It’s something that requires frequent effort, work and attention. Training a dog is not something you can do in a day, and it’s not something you can pick up and leave off and return to at will. It’s something that you have to work at to make it happen, and it’s a commitment. The good news is that most dogs are very easily trained. They can be taught because they are very intelligent creatures with intelligent minds and personalities, and they’re eager to learn. Provided you work with your dog the right way and you are committed to teaching your dog appropriate behavior, you will find that it’s something that can be easily done. Of course, experts agree that there are some breeds that are just a lot easier to train than others. And we can’t disagree with that. Does this mean that having one of these breeds is going to guarantee that you’ll have a simple go of training your dog? No; all dogs are different and sometimes that means even easily trained breeds have a few difficult members. With that said, here are some of the most easily trained breeds, according to the American Kennel Club.

Poodle
A breeder once said to me that anything mixed with a poodle is easy to train and highly intelligent. The Maltese-Poodle mix I got was the obvious exception to this rule. However, the poodle is one of the most intelligent breeds in the world, and that makes it easy to train. It’s smart enough to recognize commands and need very little secondary instruction. It’s also eager to please and very happy to make you happy.

Rottweiler
There is a lot of misconception that floats around about this breed. People tend to be quite nervous around it, wondering if it is going to attack or use any sort of aggressive nature with them. It’s not an aggressive dog, however. It’s actually an intelligent dog that learns how to behave from those around it. It’s not going to be an aggressive dog if it’s taught to be a polite and well-behaved dog.

Doberman Pinscher
The deal with the Doberman is that his temperament is learned directly from its owner. If you are high-strung, this is a dog that will become high-strung. If you are calm and relaxed, chances are good that your dog will be calm and relaxed. This is a dog that does learn quickly and well, but it is also a dog that has some issues with those who are not experienced dog owners. This is not typically recommended for first-time dog owners.
