Did you know that oftentimes a dog’s breed has less to do with adoptability than other factors? Many people go into shelters and rescues looking to adopt a dog, not choosing the dog so much based on what it is so much as what it looks like. For example, the ASPCA states that the smaller the dog, the more likely it is to be adopted. Additionally, there is also a popular belief that dogs with lighter coats are more adoptable than dogs with black coats. This is called black dog syndrome, and it’s real. Additionally, some believe that dogs that are the most expensive to purchase are the most likely to be adopted since the fee is so insignificant in comparison. Either way, there are some dogs that are far more likely to be adopted than others – read on to find out which ones are most adopted. Keep in mind that the most adopted dogs in shelters are not always the same in every shelter; they tend to come from the list of most popular breeds, but many prefer smaller dogs.
