2. German Shepherd
The German Shepherd is the second most commonly owned dog and are not only seen in families, but they are very commonly seen in the police departments as K-9 dogs, and used in the military as well. They are big, strong and extremely loyal. They would not hesitate to give up their life for their human. They make excellent watch and guard dogs due to their protective instincts. Even so, they are gentle natured to those they trust, and have a loving disposition when they are properly socialized from a young age. This is the second most commonly owned breed of dog.
