764-Days Apart: Will “Senior Dog” Recognize Dad Again?

It looks like Bosco the Beagle-mix went on an unexpected adventure when he slipped out of his collar while exploring his neighborhood in Westerly, Rhode Island. Sadly, he lost his way back home and went missing at the age of 9.

Bill Ballato, a disabled veteran, experienced a heart-wrenching loss when his beloved dog Bosco was hit by a car in San Antonio. Despite months of searching through missing posters and personal inquiries, Bosco remained missing with no sightings. Bill was forced to relocate to Lafayette, Colorado, and feared he may never be reunited with his furry companion again.
Amazingly, after nearly two years since his disappearance, some Rhode Island residents recognized Bosco from the missing posters. Bosco was found living on the streets, but unfortunately, he had become quite skittish and wary of people.

The locals who recognized Bosco’s missing poster reached out to Sheilah Graham, a Department of Homeland Security employee renowned for her expertise as a “pet detective.” She quickly got in touch with Bill and gathered more information about Bosco’s whereabouts.
With her knowledge and experience, Sheilah was able to successfully lure Bosco with a trap baited with all of his favorite foods, and soon enough, they were reunited.

Understanding Bill’s inability to travel and knowing that Bosco wouldn’t be allowed on a plane, Sheilah kindly offered to make the 2,000-mile journey to reunite Bosco with his owner. Despite the challenges, including the fact that Bosco was skittish and difficult to handle, Sheilah happily drove for 36 hours straight and through two snowstorms, all on her own dime. Her compassion and dedication ensured that Bosco was well-cared for and made it back to Bill safe and sound.

After an incredible 764 days, when Bill’s senior dog finally caught sight of him, he seemed perplexed and unsure. Bill was worried that Bosco might not recognize him anymore. But then, summoning up his courage, Bill called out to his furry friend with the nickname “Dude,” and in that moment, Bosco realized he was back in the arms of his beloved father. It was a heartwarming reunion that no one involved will ever forget.
It was an incredibly heartwarming moment when Bosco was reunited with his old toys and his puppy brother, and it was clear that he was overjoyed to be back with his family. We are forever grateful to Sheilah for her selflessness and determination in bringing Bosco back to Bill.
