Homeless 17-Year-Old Surrenders His Dog To Keep Her Safe

It’s common for people to rush to judgment when someone surrenders their dog to a shelter. However, it’s important to recognize that giving up a dog is a difficult decision, and there’s usually a valid reason behind it. In this case, a 17-year-old boy made the responsible choice by bringing his beloved furry friend to the shelter. Currently facing homelessness, he realized he couldn’t provide for the pup’s needs any longer, which was undoubtedly a heart-wrenching decision.

Upon learning about the boy’s situation, the community was deeply moved. Living in a small town, it poses challenges for the boy to get back on his feet independently. However, many compassionate individuals have extended their support to the boy and his dog, offering help if he’s willing to accept it. Doing the Right Thing

In Senatobia, Mississippi, the boy and his dog found themselves residing under a bridge. Jada, a four-month-old Rottweiler/German Shepherd mix, had been the boy’s faithful companion since she was a tiny puppy. Their bond was undeniable, but the boy faced the difficult reality that he could no longer provide the care Jada needed. Consequently, he made the heartfelt decision to surrender her to the Senatobia-Tate County Animal Shelter.

With Jada by his side, the boy embarked on a journey to the shelter, walking every step of the way. Clutched in his hands was a garbage bag containing her food and blanket, the meager possessions they had. Despite the shelter being already filled to capacity, the staff knew they couldn’t turn them away. They accommodated Jada in the main area of the facility, yet it was evident that her spirits plummeted as soon as her human departed.

Shelter Director Kris Robinson, deeply moved by the boy’s situation, expressed their sympathy, saying, “My heart broke for him. He was clearly saddened by having to bring his dog up here.” Jada, sensing her human’s departure, clung to him around his legs, faithfully mirroring his movements. The bond between them was undeniable and palpable.

Community Stepped Up

Once the boy departed, Jada slumped to the ground, clearly disheartened. Alongside her lay the garbage bag containing her belongings. A compassionate individual at the shelter, moved by the sight, captured a photograph of Jada in that vulnerable moment. The image was shared across social media platforms, and it instantly struck a chord with people, evoking a profound sense of sadness for both Jada and the boy.

In light of the circumstances, a foster home has been arranged for Jada while law enforcement investigates the situation. Following the shelter’s Facebook post detailing the boy’s predicament, an outpouring of support ensued.

Numerous individuals came forward, offering their assistance. Some offered to provide a home for both the boy and his dog, while others expressed their willingness to help him secure employment. In addition, a local church extended its support by providing temporary shelter and food for those in need.

As of now, the shelter has been unable to establish contact with the boy. Nevertheless, there are several avenues of support available to him should he choose to accept it. Kris Robinson, the shelter director, commends the boy’s decision to surrender Jada, recognizing it as a thoughtful and intelligent choice.

Instead of simply abandoning the dog, the boy went out of his way to ensure the safety and well-being of his cherished four-legged family member. This display of responsibility and care demonstrates the boy’s dedication to Jada’s welfare, and it speaks volumes about his character.

The shelter said they will update followers if they hear from the boy or gain more information. But for the time being, Jada will be receiving the best care possible. Hopefully, she and her human will be reunited soon.
