dog

Being a dog is hard work, especially in some cities across the world. For example, the US has a number of locations across the country in which it’s just not always ideal to raise a dog. When you take into consideration things like the cost of veterinary care, the number of vets in the area, the number of pet stores in the area, the number of dog-friendly locations in the area and the number of dog parks in a city for dogs to use, these are the worst 20 cities in the country in which to raise a dog.  Remember however, not to confuse this with the most dangerous dogs, that’s entirely difference.

Santa Ana, California

It’s here that dogs are not loving live since there are very few dog parks. Per capita, you will find among the least dog parks in the country, and it’s because they are virtually nonexistent. Dogs like to be outdoors, so you better hope that your home comes with a large yard. But since many areas in this particular part of the state are not known for their large yards, this is a deal breaker for many people when it comes to getting a dog.

San Antonio, Texas

While it might seem that this is a great place for dogs, it’s not always the case. More than almost any other city in the country, dog attacks here are on the rise. What this means is that many owners are not doing their job to correctly train their dogs. What it also means is that people here are terrified of dogs. That means that they could falsely accuse dogs of misbehaving or even treat certain breeds as bad dogs even though they are not.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

What makes this city rough (or should we say, ruff) on dogs is that there are not enough vets in the city. They are in high demand, and it’s not always easy to find one. What this might mean for you is a serious annoyance when you do get to the vet’s office. What this might mean for your dog is fewer trips to the vet because you are tired of spending hours in the waiting room. All in all, it’s not good for the health of your dog not to go to the vet on a regular basis.

Sacramento, California

While many of the people here do have dogs, and the cost of raising one around here is not too bad, some people say it is one of the worst cities for dogs. See, there is a theory that it’s not bad dogs that attack people, it’s bad owners that don’t teach their dogs the proper behavior methods. Sacramento rates among the most dangerous cities in the country for dog attacks, which means people here are more afraid of dogs than they are in love with them.

Jersey City, New Jersey

If you want to raise a dog in Jersey City, you better hope that you have deep pockets. The cost of veterinary care here is among the highest in the country. This means that for basic vet care, you will pay significantly more than people across the world. And since you cannot predict what might happen once you get to the vet – or what might happen to your dog on a daily basis – the cost could become significantly higher at any moment. It’s enough to prevent people from wanting dogs.

Anaheim, California

Another Orange County city makes the list as the worst places in the country for dogs. This city makes the list because there are not enough dog parks. This means it’s more difficult to find one close to your home so that you can take your dog on a nice walk to the park. The other issue is that many of the people who live here do not have large enough yards for the exercise needs of many breeds, which makes the lack of dog parks even worse.

Los Angeles, California

While the good news is that dogs will find that there are a number of dog parks and places that they can go to play and have fun, they will also find that many breeds are discriminated against here. There were more dog bites here than almost any other city in the country a few years back, and that made many of the residents a bit skeptical about certain dog breeds. There is a good chance that the people who live here might not all be the best dogs owners as they are not teaching their animals appropriate behavior techniques.

St. Louis, Missouri

There’s a lot to say about this particular city. One thing we will say for certain is that it’s not a particularly safe place for anyone, including dogs. It’s the most dangerous city in the country and it’s ranked among the most dangerous cities in the world. The poverty rate is high, which means people cannot afford their animals. Additionally, there are more dog attacks here than many other cities, which means some breeds are ostracized and treated unfairly as a result.

Corpus Christi, Texas

It’s here that you will find larger yards, which is a good thing since you will not find many dog parks. Dogs find it difficult to want to enjoy their lives when they have nowhere to go on their walks in which they can run around and enjoy themselves while being free and getting a bit of exercise. While this might be fine for some breeds, it is just not the case for other breeds that are just not as capable of being confined as others.

New York City

It’s no big secret that raising a dog is New York City takes a very special person. It’s not always possible to raise certain dogs in the city since they need a lot of space and a lot of time outside. Most of the people that live here have no yard, which means they have to find a park or dog park. The cost of veterinary care here is quite high, and the people who live here are often on the go so much that they haven’t time for their dogs. And walking a dog down many flights of stairs or to a place in which they can use the bathroom and run free is often stressful.

Orlando, Florida

Orlando is very friendly to tourists and children, but it’s not so much for dogs. There are very few dog parks here, which often makes it difficult for people to take their dogs out and have a good time. The good news is that many of the suburban neighborhoods here come with large yards so that homeowners can have dogs that have plenty of space in which to run around and enjoy themselves when they are in the mood.

North Las Vegas, Nevada

With few parks for dogs, this is a terrible city in which to raise a dog. If you have a large yard, it might be a bit better, but without dog parks it is difficult for you to take your dog anywhere you go. There are other things that make the area less than ideal, too, such as high costs for pet care, fewer pet stores than other locations and even high veterinary costs. These all combine to make it nearly impossible for your dog to want to live here if he could make the decision on his own.

Boston, Massachusetts

Boston is known for being one of the most expensive cities in which to raise a dog. Boston is quite expensive. This is true of veterinary care and many other costs related to owning and raising a dog. but the simple truth of the matter is that it is one of the most expensive cities in the country as far as costs go at the vet, which makes it out of the question for many families to even consider a dog of their own. This means that so many people who want a dog to love cannot have one.

Detroit, Michigan

There are a number of reasons that Detroit makes this list as a not-so-amazing location in which to raise dogs. For one, the vast majority of the city is living well below the poverty line and struggling to care for their families. The added expense of a dog is not something many families can handle, and they have let their dogs go. There are a number of homeless dogs, shelters are packed and people just cannot afford their dogs here anymore. Additionally, there are very few dog parks and that makes things very difficult on dog owners in the area looking for a place to take their dogs for fun.

Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville does not make it easy on residents to have a dog of their own. The cost of veterinary care is so high here that many people simply cannot afford their dogs. This might not stop them from owning a dog, but it will prevent a number of residents from seeking the kind of veterinary care that their dogs might need when he or she is sick or injured because they know that the high costs will make it nearly impossible for them to afford the fees.

Newark, New Jersey

Aside from being one of the most dangerous cities in the world, which might inspire people to want a dog for protection reasons, it’s not a good place for dogs. The cost of living for a dog is quite high here, and that includes a lack of pet places, including dog parks. And since people here aren’t known to have huge yards in most cases, that leaves them with either quite a hike to find a dog park or the inability to even take their dog to a dog park.

Garland, Texas

In Garland, you will not find many places in which you can raise a dog near a dog park. Since many people prefer to have a dog near a park in which they can run around and play, it seems that many people make the decision not to even have a dog around here because of the lack of parks available in the area. It makes sense, and it is a bit sad for dogs. However, the cost of caring for a dog here is also quite high, and that makes it difficult for people to want to get one of their own.

Seattle, Washington

Seattle is another city that is well-known for its high costs at the vet’s office. It’s also known for being a very rainy city, which often makes it difficult for people to even want a dog. While there are many areas in the city that have a number of dog parks and homes with big yards, some people choose not to have pets here because it is so rainy and spending that kind of time outside does not seem appealing.

Lubbock, Texas

In Lubbock, you will find high prices at vet offices, a surprising lack of vet offices for the size of the area and you will not find many dog parks. All in all, this is not a very dog-friendly city. That’s something that many locals do consider when they think about bringing home a dog, and it’s because they are looking to raise their dog in an affordable and comfortable manner. While many people around Lubbock do have dogs, it’s not something that they find inexpensive or even convenient on many occasions.

Laredo, Texas

Texas is home to many cities with large plots of land available with most houses, which is good news. Since there are so very few dog parks in the area, it only makes sense that people would need to have a big yard in which to raise their animals since they are in need of exercise and attention. It’s just not a good place for dogs when you consider the cost of veterinary care, the number of vets in the area and the cost of raising a dog in general.
