A Dog No One Knew Existed is Found by Paramedics

In Pennsylvania, the paramedics at Elite EMS know how to treat people really well. That’s a given. But who knew they were so good at rescuing animals? Their station in Hermitage, PA, has a mascot named Humphrey who was rescued from the local animal shelter. While the crew at the station is proficient at providing emergency medical services, Humphrey is proficient at keeping them all company. There’s nothing like a good dog to make anyone feel more grounded and never feel alone.

Elite EMS was founded in 2010 and offers cutting edge emergency medical services to residents of the Shenango Valley Area, including Clark, Farrell, Hermitage, Lackawannock Township, Sharon, Sharpsville, and Shenango Township. The station is open 24/7 and has a crew of about 30 men and women. One of them is Courtney Ivan, who is proud to be counted among the amazing crew members at Elite EMS.

Recently, Courtney went out on a call where a man had passed away. Arriving on the scene after local firefighters did, Courtney was warned by one of those firefighters to watch out for the deceased man’s dog who was alleged to be really mean. Being a dog-lover herself, Courtney looked for the dog and found her on the back patio. The Australian cattle dog greeted Courtney and her co-worker quite amiably when they entered the patio. Although nobody knew yet how long the dog had gone without being cared for since her master had died, Courtney didn’t see any reason to fear the friendly people-loving dog. She even followed the paramedics around the house lovingly as they went about their job.

When the Elite EMS team contacted the deceased man’s family, nobody had any idea that he even owned a dog. But, when they said that they would have her euthanized, Courtney knew right away that she couldn’t let that happen. Not on her watch! She was understandably relieved, of course, when they said that she could take that sweet Australian cattle dog that no one knew existed to their station instead of putting her down.

So, the dog that no one knew existed had a new home at the Hermitage Elite EMS station and the crew named her Hope. The question then was whether Humphrey would accept another dog or not. The crew had thought that maybe they would just foster the new dog for a short time, but once they all met and bonded with her, they were hooked. And, so was Humphrey. He loved his new friend and the crew put their matching doggy beds right next to each other and they were as happy as clams hanging out together and sharing all their treats and toys with each other.

Unfortunately, Hope had a serious shoulder injury that the vet and the crew tried treating with pain meds, but eventually, they had to make the decision to let the vet amputate her leg. Humphrey missed her a lot during the surgery when she was gone for a few days and was absolutely thrilled when they brought her back to him and they could be like two peas in a pod again. Courtney said that Hope didn’t even seem to know that she only had three legs and the dog that no one knew existed had turned out to be an amazing inspiration to all of them.
