Bentley, a dog who disappeared three years ago in Memphis, Tennessee, had a heartwarming reunion with Dee, the sister of his late owner, all thanks to the Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly).

ACCT Philly discovered the pit bull roaming around Philadelphia earlier this month and took him to their shelter. They scanned Bentley for a microchip, a small device the size of a grain of rice that stores a pet’s contact and health details, implanted under the skin. This microchip allows veterinarians and shelters to access the information stored on it when scanned.

Bentley’s microchip was found, but when the shelter attempted to contact the owner listed, it was Dee who answered the phone. She informed the shelter that Bentley’s owner had passed away during the time he was missing and expressed her immense joy upon hearing that the dog was safe.

A few weeks later, Bentley and Dee were joyfully reunited in a touching moment captured by ACCT Philly and shared on social media. The video shows Bentley howling and wagging his tail when he sees Dee.

Seated on the grass, Dee hugs Bentley and tells him, “I missed you so much. Come here, baby.” In the same video, she tearfully explains how Bentley went missing three years ago.

“My sister was walking him, and she fell down because she had cancer,” Dee recounts. They searched for Bentley but couldn’t find him. Overwhelmed with gratitude, she continues to pet the smiling dog, expressing, “I don’t know how he got all the way to Philadelphia, but I am so grateful. He was all we had to remember her by.”

Emotionally, Dee tells Bentley, “Bentley, I love you so much. You don’t know what this means to me.”

Dee also reveals that despite her own health challenges, she never gave up searching for her late sister’s beloved dog.

Although ACCT Philly initially considered using volunteer pilots to reunite Bentley with Dee in Tennessee, they ultimately sought assistance from a pet transportation service called Whiskers, Tails & Scales Transport. The service ensured Bentley’s safe journey back to his home in Memphis.

In an update provided by the transportation service, they shared that Bentley is “doing great” and disclosed that he is deaf. The post also mentioned that Bentley has learned some basic sign language commands.

Dee and Bentley now spend a lot of time together in Memphis. Dee has received permission to bring Bentley to work with her, and the pit bull happily stays by her side, laying right at her feet.
